These are a great change from the boring rice krispy treat of childhood. I was advised by the health food store to not use flax seed oil because it tends to go rancid too fast. So I substitued with grapeseed oil that I had on hand. I also was unable to find puffed brown rice so I used Kashi Honey Puffs which provided even more fiber and more levels of taste. Wonderful bars!

This rating is from my 11 yo daughter who gives it a 4.5 star. It probably would have been a 5 had we any flax seed oil. We didn't and we couldn't get the marshmallows to melt all the way. No problem; it still bound the puffs together with clumps of marshmallow. She is not a big fan of dried fruit but we found cranberries infused with Pomegranate juice (her favorite fruit and it gave it a nice burst of flavor.

To the poster two below me, that information is for the protein bars. The rice squares are something like 90 calories and a gram of protein, and I believe about 3 grams of fat.

Does anyone know what the shelf-life on this puppy is? AB doesn't mention it in the episode, and the only other info I get is the recipe itself which doesn't make sense to me given what's involved:
"store in air-tight container for 1 to 2 days"
Wouldn't AB mention something to this effect if it was so short-lived? Did he just put it in the little blurbs and I miss it due to not being able to read regular print?

I JUST made these and they are very tasty. I do not cook by wieght so I used the six cup method. Reading other comments I would go with this as there was a lot more volume doing it this way. I used a mixed bag of dried fruit that included all of his fruit, including other fruits such as plums. I still got "club hand" even with oiled hands, but it was part of the fun. Only complaint is the price of the flax oil, but that is not Altons fault.

I also couldn't find the brown puffed rice, so I used a box of Kashi 7 Whole Grains. It worked really well for the recipe, and added a little variety.
