Made these today with the following modifications due to price and/or availability at the one store I hit at 7 AM last minutes.

Walnut oil - higher flashpoint heating and still healthy
Kashi Go Lean - I got the wrong cereal but it is DELICIOUS nonetheless and super high in fiber!!
Blue Agave for part of the honey because I ran out of honey
    added vanilla for extra flavor

All I can say is that these are very good and I don't feel guilty eating them! I'm pregnant and really was looking for a guilt free sweet snack. I did toast the cereal even though it wasn't the "right stuff" and I think it was a good idea. My husband's interest was piqued when we watched the show and he had many reservations about it but loved them. Bonus? My 22 month old loves them too and I can't think of a better snack to feel good about allowing him to eat than this for the time being! We are a low sugar household and this is about as sweet as it gets!

my kids love these! had to change it up a bit. used puff brown rice cereal. also, couldn't find flax seed oil, so i used toasted sesame oil and cut it down to 1T - which gave great "nuttiness". also used fluff- hubby insisted *sigh.... also used orange honey instead of the citrus blossom that my supermarket had. it was $12 for just 6 oz...

even with all of these changes... they are great! will definitely make again and again!!

Flax seed oil does not have any flavor if you keep it in the fridge I'm sure rancid flax that sits on a pantry shelf tasted awful, people who said it was to strong must have over heated it, in the show Alton said make sure to not heat you flax oil to high. These rice crispy bars are wonderful I mix it up with all different kinds of dried fruit and sometimes add yogurt chips though they are the same calories as a chocolate chip.

I've made these a few times and they are all gone in just a couple of days. Very nutritious and tasty. It was expensive to buy all the dried fruit but I was able to make 3 batches with what I bought. I recommend watching the episode beforehand because Alton has some great tips that makes cooking the marshmallows much easier to handle.

Healthier and tastier than the original but it costs more and toasting the puffed brown rice (a specialty item that you have to look for burns easily.

My husband made these recently and they were nothing short of terrible. I don't know what the problem was, perhaps it was the taste of the flax seed oil . . .

This recipe is not up to Alton's usual high standards and I recommend that you give it a pass.

Alton is great, generally, but this recipe was heinous. The flaxseed oil gives what should be a lightly sweet treat a pronounced musky flavor that is very offputting. A neutral oil might've worked better (though without the Omega-3 benefit with perhaps a drop or two of butter flavoring.

these are fantastic. do your research. flax oil varies tremendously in flavor from one supplier to the next. bottom line, these are fantastic. healthy always tastes different.

one note: doctor such and such from whatever spa below...have you ever researched the termperatures achieved using a proper double boiler?

These are very tasty treats. We just had to try it. After the protein bars and granola bars Alton had on the same show, we just had to try the crispy treats too. We couldn't find the puffed brown rice so we went to the health food section of the grocery store and purchased brown crispy rice cereal. And we had to wait a week for the store to get their supply of flax seed oil back in. But now that they are finally made, mmm, mmm, mmm! That's good eats! Even my 6 year old picky eater loved them! Thanks!

This is an excellent treat - it is very quick and delicious. We especially like Alton's tip about cooking it over a pan of simmering water - much more manageable
