There is too much flax in these treats. It's a good idea and they have great texture but the flax just overpowered all other flavors and made me feel sick.

First I have to say that I love the show good eats and love watching Alton Brown ;- I was very excited to try these bars because I really like eating healthy and I'm always on the lookout for healthy snacks my kids will love. I think the reason I don't like these bars is the flax oil. It just smells bad and tastes even worse. And there's so much of it in this recipe that it overpowers all the other flavors. I do think this recipe would taste pretty good if made w/ butter. I know it's not as healthy, but considering all the other healthy ingredients I think I'd rather go w/ butter. I spent all this time shopping for these ingredients, then making them, just to get rid of the evidence before the kids and hubby return home. Needless to say I'm disappointed.

I was VERY skeptical about these until I made them and Alton did not lie---they are tasty. My husband, who, as a freak of nature, does not like regular Rice Krispie treats, does like these. Go figure.

On the show, Alton gave Nutritional Information (i.e., carbs, calories, fat, etc. but this is SADDLY missing from the printout recipe on the Food Network website. I cook for a diabetic, so such details (especially carbs are important to me and many other views. ALL RECIPES ON FOOD NETWORK SHOULD INCLUDE NUTRITIONAL INFORMATION! IMHO (Stepping down from my Soap Box!

I was reluctant to try this healthy alternative to a classic snack. I was pleasantly surprised with the results. I also made a batch where I melted natural peanut butter in with the flax seed oil. Yum!

I made AB's origional recipe and my family loved it!

Looking for a way to give my son who has a variety of allergies foods that are similar to his friends, I added 1/4 cup of peanut butter and 2 teaspoons of cocoa powder and doubled the oil. They turned out great!

It was the first time my son had a chocolate birthday treat!

Bravo Alton! I was so excited when I watched this episode because I a Weight Watcher and I am always looking for healthier alternatives to things that I like to eat. These turned out great and I would definitely make them again. I figured out the points for Weight Watchers to be 3. So far I've lost 26 lbs. and this will be another great addition to my healthy diet. Do more shows like this!!

I noticed many people complaining about the flax seed oil used and that after a certain temp, it developes a very bitter taste. The show in which Alton makes these yummy treats specifically addresses this problem by giving you a safe way too cook with the oil so that it doesn't develope the bitter taste while still allowing you to benefit from the chewy, moist by-product the oil gives us. It helps to watch the show.
