I didn't have dried blueberries, so I used equal parts cherries and cranberries, didn't have almonds, so I used pecans and couldn't afford flaxseed oil without a loan officer present so I used walnut oil, but folks, these are some darn fine vittles....er...good eats. I'll make this one again.

P.S. I toasted the rice for 6 minutes instead of 4.

I really liked the different flavor and slightly different texture of these. A grown up rice crispy treat. I find the double boiler unessisary for melting the marshmallows. Putting them in a pan directly on the stove top works just as well, and is a bit easier.

I'm a health nut myself, a personal trainer and a native of Boulder, Colorado (aka, hippy town as I like to call it and I found these too healthy for a tasty snack. I could taste the flak seed and it just...didn't really do it for me. Perhaps less flack seed and some natural peanut butter? I'll try it that way and see how it comes out. Nice idea though...

This recipe is a keeper. Rice Krispy treats are...or should I say were my husband's favorite snack, but he said these blow them away. He loved the addition of dried fruits and almonds. The bars were crispy and gooey and oh so good. Thanks Alton! (Also, thank you to Anonymous who printed the nutritional value of these bars.

I've made the recipe twice in three days. The puffed brown rice tastes like Sugar Smacks sans the sugar. Gives a great twist to an old classic.

    (good with craisins.

My kids loved these bars as much as me and my wife! I used puffed wheat cereal instead of the brown rice, and they gave it a great flavor. Make these every week now.

It would have been nice if the nutritional info was listed with the recipe. It was listed on the program.

Don't get me wrong -- these certainly aren't bad, as evidenced by the fact that I polished off an entire row of them.... but be advised that they are more chewy than crispy even after toasting the rice. I was unable to find puffed brown rice, too, which was disappointing since they therefore had less nutritional value using puffed white rice. Even using brown rice, though, don't kid yourself that this is health -- marshmallows are only sugar, after all, and dried fruit is high in calories.
