This smoothie is EXCELLENT! I made it as written except that I used almond milk (thanks to the other reviewers here for the suggestion! because I don't do soy. The portion is large so I split mine with my kids and they love it too! The one thing I would like is if AB would print the nutritional information for his new "healthy" Good Eats.

Very easy to make, and easy to make alterations.

I found an acai/blueberry juice, so I substituted frozen blackberries for the blueberries--still very "purple", to be sure. (The only problem with this is the seeds, but they don't bother me that much. I also use vanilla flavored soy milk. I've also taken to putting a fiber supplement before blending.

I don't want to get my blender out every morning, or leave it out taking up counter space, so I just use my immersion blender and essentially follow the same directions. The consistency is probably a bit off from what it SHOULD be, but still tastes good. It has become a frequent breakfast for me. It keeps me satisfied until lunch (and feeling better about myself, because it's so healthy.

Life changing show to me. I now have a smoothie every morning!
I don't remember what you had for dinner. Can you post the 4 food groups and what to have always, occasionally and rarely and never on your website? Please show this program again and again, for I want to save it to review and take notes. This was a very important show for all of us who want to eat well. Caroline

I am preparing each of these recipes from "Live and Let Diet", I already know we will love them just because I have never been disapointed with AB's recipes. We need MORE episodes of Good Eats like this one. Come on AB I know you can give us more! PS; When can we expect a new Book for this one? I have already been looking for it...

Tried this recipe a few weeks ago after seeing ABs 'diet' episode. It's been my breakfast ever since! Just Love It! Now I'm not a smoothie fan at all! Always thought of them as much too sweet. Yet it is so easy, to prepare the night before then give it a few spins in the blender the next morning. My blender is an inexpensive Cuisinart, I use the pulse mode to break the fruit up then spin away as AB recommends. Comes out thick, smooth, and creamy.

Like a few, who've already commented, I too substituted milk due a soy allergy. Use fresh banana as I couldn't find frozen at my grocery store. Also I divide the smoothie between 2 mornings as it way too much for me. So far I haven't experienced any problems with the smoothie not being as good the next morning.

Should AB publish the recipes he used for his weight loss I'd be in line to purchase them. I understand his categories, but I'm no chef or nutritionist so a bit of guidance and lots of meal ideas would be extremely helpful too me.

I tried this with just some things that I had in my house. I don't really like milk, so I used vanilla flavored almond milk instead. It's in the organic section usually. It adds protein also. This smoothie is very easy to make. I'm not an early riser yet I can get this made in no time. I also like that it doesn't have yogurt. I hate yogurt. Great recipe!

I've been behind on my Good Eats watching and was a little taken aback when I saw Alton earlier in the week wearing a long sleeve shirt and looking skinny. I was concerned. Turns out, I didn't have to be. When I watched the episode from a night or two later and he explained what he was doing. And I was relieved.

My wife and I cannot wait to try this recipe. Like Terry in Kaplan, we have the Ninja Pro, which my wife uses to make slushes and smoothies (and crushed ice for her beverages so that'll be our mixer. We'll be picking up the ingredients this week (we'll visit the membership warehouses near us for the IQF packages and it looks like we'll need to buy a box of drinking straws.

I guess I won't be needing my morning bagel any more.

Thank you, Alton, for this recipe. And thanks to everyone that posted alternatives for some ingredients.

I am not allergic to soy, however, its not a fav in my diet. I use a protein powder purchased from like GNC to add to my smoothies. I find the vanilla adds a nice touch to it without overpowering the fruit. Add the desired amount until you get the taste/protein amount you desire. Good drinking....

I am always looking for great smoothie recipes. I think this one is probably the best and heathiest. I admire Alton's "make over" since he began his new life-stlye eating! Let me know when he gets all his healthy recipes together in a book, for I'm am ready to buy it! Success to him for taking a stand against some of the things we have been traditionally consuming.
