This is the first time I have tried chicken fried steak and I was blown away how tasty it was. So was my husband. He was raving about it the whole time we ate and then wanted another steak! It was that good. I followed the recipe exactly as written and it came out fantastic. Can't wait for the leftovers tonight!

I had never made chicken fried steak before but my honey loves it so I made it for him. We both really enjoyed it. I did spice up the gravy with some garlic powder but that was about all I changed. Very simple and good!

My son asked me to cook chicken fried steak like he gets when we go out. This is the recipe that I chose and he loved it. I did it just as the recipe stated and it turned out perfect! Thanks

I love Alton's recipes. They are fool proof and so tasty! I've been wanting chicken fried steak for a while & nothing I've eaten at a restaurant comes close to this. This is down home style, so very good.

My husband's favorite meal is Chicken Fried Steak. I never made it at home before, and decided to give it a shot. I searched it on Food Network, and of course, Alton to the rescue! My husband LOVED it! I didn't make Alton's gravy though, cause my hubby likes milk gravy, so I made that instead. But the CFS was soooo tender and flavorful. I can bet hubby will be asking me to make it again. Love ya, Alton! You're the best!

I really enjoyed the chicken fried steaks, however I found the gravy a disgusting mess. I followed the recipe exactly as written, I knew something seemed wrong though. Way, way too much oil! 1/4 cup + 1 tbsp of oil is way to much! What was Alton thinking? Maybe when he makes it the steaks soak up most of the oil, but not when I do it. Once done frying I was left with pretty much the same amount of oil in the pan (1/8 cup, and I thought "add the remaining oil plus the extra tablespoon, no way!" It would not thicken even after cooking down for a good 15 minutes, and turned into a greasy mess. What I should have done is drain all but 1-2 tbsp out of the pan, then added the flour. Needless to say, my husband wasn't happy to eat chicken fried steak, and mashed potatoes with out any gravy! (he ended up going to the store & bought a mix.

I tried this recipe one time, and let me tell you, I will never be able to get chicken fried steak at a restaurant ever again. It's soo good! I've made it many times, each time varying the recipe a tad. I always add Garlic Powder, Onion Powder and Cayenne to the flour, as I do with everything I make. I think it gives it a bit more flavor for the breading as well as the gravy.
