Here in Alaska we eat lots of fish and I love fish and chips. I sample them everywhere I go. This recipe is better than any I've had in any restaurant! I always make this for friends and family when they come to visit. I also deliver fish to my family whenever I visit and I know they all use this recipe too.
As for the chips, I grow my own potatoes (don't know if that makes a difference, cut them in wedges and batter them with the fish batter. Delish!!

Absolutely delicious! I used the batter on both tilapia and onion rings. Thank you, Alton, not only do I thoroughly enjoy your recipes but I also learn a lot from you. We love you!

I have prepared fish many different ways including the microwave. This fish and chip recipe is hands down the best. Also, my wife appreciated that the kitchen did not stink of grease when I was finished. Going to try walleye next time. Thanks.

I substituted skim milk for beer and used talapia. The fish and chips tasted exactly like they did on my trip to London.

I once tried to make fish and chips from the Joy of Cooking and it took me the whole afternoon. This recipe was a breeze, and I don't think my kids even realized they were eating fish. A definite winner and a recipe that will appear on our dinner table frequently from now on.

This turned out fairly well. It was our first attempt at stovetop frying. A few tips - make sure you have at least 3" of pot left at the top of the oil. If not, when you drop the chips in, the oil can boil over (did for us. If it does boil over, cut the burner on the stove immediately. Make sure you have a fire extinguisher handy.
That said, the food was good. Work in smll batches and make sure the fish gets to a nice golden brown. If it's not really good and golden, the batter will be gooey inside. Also, we're going to add a bit more salt and pepper to the batter next time. 1 1/2 lbs. of fish was way too much for my wife, me and our two kids (11 & 8. We're using 3/4 lb next time. 3 big baking potatoes seemed just right.

Simple directions that make a great product, and batter sticks if you follow directions.

Very good recipe. This is the best I have ever used and is great on onion rings, and shrimp as well.
