This is a great recipe! I used a scooper to scoop the mixture out in semi-balls, refrigerated for an hour, sprayed Pam on my hands and formed the balls. Worked really well.
I did have problems with the chocolate. I melted in the microwave (I was in a hurry with butter and then added boiling water a little at a time until I got the consistency I was looking for. I dipped the balls in the chocolate with a fork but very small tongs would work better if you have them. I took these to my office Christmas party and they were a hit! Several people wanted the recipe. They weren't pretty but very tasty!

More of a candy than a cookie!
I was saying naughty words trying to get these to stick together. I resorted to freezing the mixture for two hours. They were still impossible to dip so I had to spread the chocolate with a basting brush! I wish I had decreased the almond extract - I could hardly taste the coconut!

A little Pam on the fingers does wonders while making the balls. My only problem was getting the chocolate smooth enough to spread nicely. Any advise?

Really bummed about this recipe. I followed recipe to the tee, except to use toasted almonds instead of macadamia nuts. bottom line: way too many nuts. way too much almond extract, and after refrigerating and attempting to roll in the chocolate mixture, the balls fell apart and look awful. they may taste decent, but i planned to present these to guests at my annual cookie exchange party and I am not pleased with the outcome.

Very good recipe but I changed the shortening to coconut oil. Just remember to make them small. I didn't, at first, and they are very sweet & rich, smaller is better but they are awesome!!! Thanks for the recipe!!

I used to get a little upset when people review and recipe but then say how they changed it...but I did it to this recipe and wanted to share. The coconut balls are wonderful. I had some left over sweetened condensed milk which I had caramelized and decided to use it in place of the milk. It was awesome, There is nothing better than caramel and coconut! I also subbed pecans as I had them on hand.

Super yummy - just like an almond joy candy bar. I did add a little more coconut because the mix seemed a bit wet. As previously posted taste great with toasted almonds which are not as sweet as macadamias. Also, I do alot of cookie dough ball rolling around the holidays and invested in a small box of plastic gloves (smart & final. Made the sticky rolling problem a non-issue!

Delicious BUT....refrigerate the mix for about an hour before trying to form into the balls. SO MUCH EASIER and cleaner. Use water on your hands and rinse every so often to keep from getting sticky. Squeeze the balls slightly to get a firmer ball. Reduce the extract to 3/4-1 tsp unless you REALLY like the flavor of almond extract. I added chopped almonds so as to mimic the Almond Joy. Yum!

I found this recipe spot on- unlike most of the other reviews.
I did reduce almond extract to 3/4 tsp- too much leaves a very strong flavor.
I had no problem rolling these- just need to persist and roll between both of your palms.
I doubled recipe and used only one batch of chocolate for coating.
I think there may have been a misunderstanding between recipe on show and the
one I followed at website. Website recipe worked well for me.

This recipe is delicious. I found the easiest way to roll them after mixing all the ingredients was to separate the mixture onto two plates. Spread out the mixture on each and put in the refrigerator for about 30 min then they roll with hardly any problem. I use the original recipe and love them. Great job as usual Mr Brown.
