I love coconut & chocolate, but it was missing something so I added peanut butter. It helped, but not enought to make them again.

I hate to be so negative, but this was an unmitigated disaster! Alton, I think your fans would be better served if in your video you offered more tips on how to avoid the pitfalls inherent in this recipe (as expressed in many of the reviews.

Delicious but very messy! I followed the recipe exactly except I substituted walnuts for macadamia nuts. They are yummy but every step of the process makes a mess. I will probably make these again because I usually have the few ingredients on hand. Would be great with almonds!

This recipe is delicious and easy. If you like Almond Joy bars, you will love these! Alway's a hit and also makes a great gift. Everyone has their favorite recipes they pull out for special times and people...this is one of mine.

This is easy, yet FABULOUS! I felt I needed to write because the older negative reviews are based on measurements which - as Food Network indicated on the recipe - have since been updated, therefore skewing the 'overall rating'. With the 'new' measurement (only half a cup of sweetened condensed milk these were PERFECT! I had no problem rolling these into really nice balls. As someone had suggested, I wet my hands every 4 or 5 balls and had no problems with it sticking. I do want to note that the almond extract (and I love almond flavoring! was a wee bit strong at just 1 tsp., so I definitely wouldn't recommend using the full 1.5. I myself will reduce it to .75 tsp or so possibly next time.
I also made these with toasted, blanched almond slivers (yum! and then topped each coconut ball with one sliver for presentation - beautiful! I am really excited to add this to my holiday cookie platter repertoire this year!

Sounds super -- but be careful about the chocolate bits -- I just bought some, and the nice people have reduced the package size from 12 oz. to 10 oz. Which will make a BIG difference in the way the coating sets up.

I made these with my 7 year old aspiring chef. The first taste about an hour after we made them they were a little rich and a little to sweet. The next day after the condensed milk and almond extract had a chance to soak into the coconut better they tasted twice as good. This was a great starter recipe for my daughter and she enjoyed it very much and is on her way to being an iron chef.

Great recipe, thank you!!
Be sure to follow all directions very carefully,
i almost put a whole can of condensed milk instead of 1 cup.
Instead of dipping the entire ball in chocolate i did drizzles (for design reasons and they look awesome.

These turned out to be very rich, which is no surprise after reading the ingredients. They were lots of fun to make after I decided the sticky goo was not going to beat me. This is a great alternative to turning on the oven in the summer months here in the south.

haven't finished it just yet (they're drying but the sample I took tastes great. I did have trouble working with the mixture and added a bit more coconut (luckily I had some from the macaroons I'm planning to make to make it more stiff. I also used a 1 TBSP disher and pushed it real hard against the bowl to pack it down. So far everything seems to be working well. next time I will probably use less condensed milk though.
