Wonderful recipe!!! The only change I made was, used semi-sweet choc. chips instead of bittersweet chocolate, and didn't use any corn syrup.

WOWZA!! This glaze is great on chocolate doughnuts! It's very forgiving, too, since I roughly measured it and microwaved everything. It turned out perfectly! We put it on chocolate doughnuts and I think you could use it on Mudpie as well..........so good!!

Wonderful glaze! i used it for my doughnuts and it was perfect, my sister loved it (she's the chocaholic in our family. But instead of using bittersweet chocolate, i used dark belgian chocolate (80% coco and added a pinch of instant coffee powder and that brought out the rich chocolaty taste even more. Bringing it to my co-workers later today :D

Very good, use a good chocolate - makes the difference! It has a rich taste, the only request I received was to make it a little more milk chocolate next time!

I just made doughnuts for the first time ever, but the dough was sticky and I couldn't get the shape right.I was really disappointed with how the doughnuts turned out, but when I put Alton's glaze on them, they rocked!
I used 1/2 cup chocolate chips instead of the bittersweet chocolate and cut down a little on the powdered sugar so it wouldn't be too sweet. It was great! And, if you use semi-sweet chocolate chips, you don't have to break up the chocolate anyway.

I've been wanting to make regular doughnuts that I remembered from my childhood. My wife and I were talking on the way to meeting my folks and I ended up giving her the idea of us cooking doughnuts. Since we love cooking together and don't get the time to do it often, we decided to use part of our Easter Weekend to bake. We decided we use make 3 kinds of doughnuts, cinnamon sugar, plain sugar and chocolate glaze. We had a doughnut recipe but not the chocolate glaze one. I remember seeing a show on the food network were Alton Brown was showing on how to make a simple glaze. I googled Chocolate Glaze for Doughnuts and his recipe was the first to show. I chose to use it consider how easy it looked when Alton did it on one of his shows. Man am I glad I did. I have never tasted anything so delicious in my life. Being lactose intolerant and with Alton recipe, I was able to use items like Margarine instead of unsalted butter and lactose free Milk (Beatrice is the best and it still turned out perfectly. If this ever reaches Alton's ear (or eye in this case I want to Thank you sooooooooooooooo very much for this amazing recipe. I intend to share it with everyone I know who enjoys cooking and some who don't :D
Thanks again, and anyone who is thinking of making Chocolate Glazed doughnuts and is missing a recipe, look no further.

I make home made doughnuts from scratch, the old fashioned way. It takes about 5 hours from start to finish, so I'm real picky about what I put on my doughnuts. And whatever I use, must be as good as my doughnuts. So, when I found the regular glaze and the chocolate glaze by Alton, I decided to try them. I only sacrificed one doughnut for each glaze before committing to more. And I must say, I was ecstatic. And I had absolutely no problems with this chocolate glaze. I did "not" use the hot water dish. Since I cook on a gas stove, I lowered the flame to down to an absolute low, as low as I could get it without it going out, and it worked perfect. I do have more glaze than doughnut however, as I also used Alton's recipe for standard glazed doughnuts. (So now I have a variety of doughnuts to eat Which I always use and it too comes out perfect. I asked my husband for suggestions on what to do with the remaining glaze as it's too good to just toss out. His reply, "make more donuts". lol. I love the Chocolate Glaze as much as we love the regular glaze by Alton.
Alton Brown, hats off to you...Absolutely the most perfect glazes. Thank you.

It beats the socks off any chocolate glazed doughnut you've ever had before.
Very good flavor and not at all like the waxy stuff you find on commerically made doughnuts. This would also work as a brownie glaze too. I'll be making it again!
