These waffles are so yummy. I made a few small changes to the recipe, after reading some reviews that said they weren't quite sweet enough. I added 1/2 cup of sugar and whipped the egg whites separately and folded them in at the end, to make them a little fluffier. The result was perfect! They were just the right sweetness, very moist and custard-like inside with the whipped egg whites. My waffles were not crispy at all either, but they are so delicious, no one in my family seemed to care!

On International Waffle Day, I just knew we had to celebrate the holiday and picked this recipe with which to surprise my kids. These waffles were incredible. I had read the review by the "experienced chef" on the first page and whoever that was was out of their mind! These were even good plain, but we put neopolitan ice cream and whipped cream on them for dessert and they were orgasmic.

Man, these are good. They aren't quite as crispy as I'd hoped, but eat them fresh out of the waffle iron and the chocolate chips pop like little lava nuggets of sweetness. Thanks Alton, for making my morning happer!

I made two batches by doubling all the ingredients. They came out so good. Then I discovered that I forgot to double the volume of milk...but they still taste good. Wonderful !

I've made these waffles several times for work events, and they always get rave reviews. People have started requesting them! The recipe is easy. The waffles really don't need much on top when they're done, except some whipped cream!

This is by far my, favorite waffle recipe. It only gets better when you separate the eggs and whip the whites, then fold them into the final product. This makes it incredibly light and fluffy! Haven't tried substituting cake flour for AP flour yet, but i have a suspicion that might be an improvement....

I just made these this morning for my kids as they love anything chocolate. They gave these waffles an "ok" rating. I thought they were good, but not fantastic. We used just syrup on them and i thought that the syrup made them sweet enough. They were light and fluffly, not crispy on the outside. I would use this recipe as more of a dessert waffle instead of a breakfast waffle.

Just made these and they turned out fabulous! I used mini chocolate chips. I may add a little more sugar next time to give it a little more sweetness. They're great on their own as a snack.

I made these waffles for breakfast for a sleepover on my 15th birthday. Everyone loved them! They thought I was gonna pull out the box of premade stuff, but nope! I made it from scratch! I topped it off with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and it was great. BTW I LOOVE good eats!! It's my favorite show! =

I am an experienced chef and have a sensitive palate, so I am certain that my comments are accurate. On it's own, these waffles are extremely bitter. I used metric measurements, so I am confident that the problem is this recipe and not me. If, ONLY IF, one was to drown them in ice cream or loads of sweet whipped cream and sugary topping like strawberry sauce are these waffles even edible, and certainly not palatable. I'm guessing, but I think it is a possibility that the people who rated it well may have done just that, which reduces the bitter taste. I would never use this recipe again.
