I made this for dessert one night, topped with vanilla ice cream. This is very good and very chocolatey.

These waffles are simply "delicious"! Great with ice cream and/or whipped cream. The little warm chocolate chips are gooey and yummy and are a big part of what makes these so good.

This recipe is brilliant. Easy, comes together quickly, and fun for little chefs, too.

I didn't have buttermilk, so I just substituted "homemade buttermilk." I put 2 tablespoons of lime juice into a 2 cup measuring cup, then filled the rest of the way with regular Vit D whole milk. I let it sit & come to room temp, and gave it a quick mix right before using it. So here, too, Alton's science in the kitchen payed off in spades for me, my sister & my nephew.

I held out the cocoa, so I'd have a vanilla base. I took 2 ripe bananas, mashed them a bit with a potato masher (no solo artists in my kitchen, either added a sprinkle of sugar & dash of vanilla, and mashed some more, then folded it into the vanilla base.

I split the batter, at that point; I added 1/2 the required cocoa to half the batter, then added the chocolate chips to the chocolate batter.

I ended up with a stack of banana waffles & a stack of chocolate chocolate chips ones, and a very happy nephew.

These were not bad. At first the kids were not sure about them. Once they hit a chip, then they really liked them. The chips settled in the batter, so dig in deep when you scoup up a 1/3 cup full to pour on the griddle. My first attempt didn't get many chips and left the waffle a little bland. My batter needed more flour than called for, but when added it was fine. They are like waffle cakes, so I might frost them and let the kids eat them like waffled (cup cakes. I ate mine holding it in my hand and eating it like it was a (pop tart. One kid said Dad you took waffles and kicked it up to the next level.

Thank you Alton for creating a recipe that not only tastes delicious but is also quick and easy. The taste of these waffles is rich and not washed out like other recipes I've tried.
