I recorded the Ham I Am episode and have watched it no less than four times during the preparation of my city ham. The ham turned out FANTASTICALLY. As a result, I have pushed turkey to the wayside for a while for all holiday dinners. This turned out so much better than I had hoped (I did find myself "pigging out" on the crust more than the ham internals, but both were fantastic. It was fun having the video recorded so I could follow right along. One thing I would have liked to have known is some other uses of the Bourbon in the sprits bottle. Mr. Brown commented that he always keeps this item on-hand. Why? I ended up using cooking sherry since I didn't have bourbon available, and it turned out pretty darn good. I will try it the RIGHT way, next time. Thank your grandmother for me, Alton (plaid boxers are overrated anyway.

I hosted my first family Christmas dinner for 35. Needless to say, I was a nervous wreck. I found Alton's City Ham recipe a few days before Christmas and decided to give it a try. I have to say I hit it out of the park!!! This ham was simply wonderful, so moist and tender. The best Christmas dinner ever!!! Thanks so much, Alton! Christmas '08--what a great time. I will gladly host next year, too, it was that successful. Do not hesitate a minute to try this recipe. You will be glad you did!!! Happy New Year!

This is my favorite ham recipe. Who would have thought to use crushed ginger snaps on a ham?! This is now my trademark Christmas ham recipe.

I have a late Christmas with the family on Saturday and I went to the store to buy Ginger snaps. I was shocked to see they were all out out. I asked the store manager and he said the Keebler rep told him that they had "run out" of ginger snaps. I of course blame Alton Brown!!! ha,

Let me first say I have never cooked a ham- I have re-heated a fully cooked ham before and that was years ago. This year I don't know what came over me- I decided to buy this smoked ham- ready to cook. I had no clue what to do. Thankfully I ran across this recipe- I did not have any bourbon, but did have pineapple slices w/ juice and substituted the juice for the bourbon- and since I had the pineapple slices, Put them on the ham after the gingersnaps and even threw a couple of cloves on them.

I had my parents and my daughter and her boyfriend over for dinner on New Year Day (gotta have pork and black-eyed peas!- thought this is either going to be great or horrible. The ham literally melted in our mouth- Everyone wanted to take some home-The only con- well, I can't think of anything negative to say about this-

Thank you Food Network and thank you Alton Brown! You made me look fabulous and I could not be more grateful! Happy New Year!

First off I would like to say Alton has never lead me wrong and this recipe is another reason why Alton is my favorite educator of all time. Alton gives recipes for engineers, the logical progression and plain old horse sense really shines through in this. I've made this ham many, many times and without exception I have been more than pleased with the results. Next to the Roast Turkey recipe this is my favorite.

I was never a ham lover.... until now. I prepard this ham for Christmas dinner. What a huge hit. I used a 20 pound ham and doubled the recipe. My family stood by picking at this ham while I was trying to carve it. You cannot go wrong with this recipe.
