Outstanding recipe. And like almost every recipe by Alton, the ingredients are right on the money!

I made this for thanksgiving and it was a hit. I did omit the ginger snaps to keep the crust from getting soggy. I also gave it an extra spritz of whiskey halfway through the final hour in the oven. I'm making it again christmas day for my folks and my neighbors what one for New year's.

Leaving the nest and wondering how on earth I was going to be making all of those cool recipes my Mom used to make... I could feel the headache coming already. Then comes in Alton Brown with his great recpies AND explanations why food does what it does. Works great for a tech geek like me. So why so important to a ham? I was always duped into thinking that the thing my mom bought and put cloves in WAS ham. Now I have the recipes BETTER than mom used to make and I teach her how to cook some of these wonderful concotions. Mom's cooking has been foiled, (to a certain degree Now the legacy lives on and my kids will long for Dad's cooking. (that's me.
This ham is easy just as most of the Good Eats recipes are. keep a copy of the video on hand and rewind and watch the whole process. You cannot go wrong and you will end up with a great ham.
One thing NOT to skimp on.. is the utility knife. Now don't be lazy and use the same blade you were using outside.. get a new blade in that knife. using anything else will just end up getting you hurt.
Otherwise, the recipe and the show (if possible will keep you in good graces with all of your guests. (the ones that actually eat some of the wonderful ham you made.

Best ham EVER! Beats Honeybaked hands down. My step mother is making _her_ ham this x-mas, so we've decided the day after we're making Alton's so we don't miss out!!!

This recipe is absolutely the best!! I've used it for 3 years and ALWAYS get compliments on my ham. Even from my husband who "hates" mustard--he doesn't even notice the dijon. My Mom is coming for Christmas this year and I can't wait to get her evaluation. I know she will love it.

My family typically gets bored with ham throughout the year from having it at every family Holiday get together. This ham is always a big hit and they never tire of its flavor. Turns an inexpensive brand of ham into a favorite.
