I made this ham yesterday for a Christmas party for about 15 people. It was fantastic! I used apple juice instead of bourbon...it's what I had. Everybody was raving over it! Thanks Alton for another great recipe, and teaching us so much! I learn something new every time I watch your show!

The first time that I cooked this ham I was wondering what I had gotten my self into.
But after having finally cooking the ham. I got raves from all my family. How tender, the different tast of and just plain good. And would I cook one again next year.

This was a very good ham. A little warning though, it didn't take the 3-4 hours to reach 130 degrees as the recipe said. It only took about 2 hours for me and I have an oven thermometer so I knew the oven was at the correct temperature. Ended up with a ham a little ahead of schedule, but it was excellent!

I made this and Alton's Turkey with Stuffing and the turkey barley got touched. I am now going to be looking for a meat slicer so I can make this for sandwich meat as it is better than any other sandwich meat I have ever gotten from a deli and that is including boarhead meats.

I for one am not the best cook in the world. But this was super easy. This is the best ham I have ever made. My husband raves about this ham to everyone .I use a shank portion of the ham.Whenever I say i"m gonna make a ham he askes are you gonna make it the good eats way, he will even go to the store to get things if I need them. We can't stop eating it. Then after we have eaten just about enough I make bean and ham out of the left overs what a great taste. Thank Alton I would not have ever had the great taste if U didn't show this on tv.

After finding this recipe (I saw it on Good Eats a few years ago but kind of brushed it off I will NEVER NEVER make another ham again!! It was super easy. The only thing I noticed was that the cooking time didn't take nearly as long as the recipe said. I had a "ready to eat" ham, and cooking it at 250 took only about 90 minutes to get it to an internal temp of 130 degrees as the recipe states. Excellent ham...you will NOT be disappointed!!
