the baking time took longer for me (1 hour and 15 minutes and once the toothpick came out reletively clean I pulled them brownies from the over and figured carry-over ad cool down would finish the job. The were perfect. I love a nice crust on my brownies with a super fudgey inside and that's exactly as they came out. I will definitely be making these again and never buy the boxed stuff anymore. For anyone who says they don't like the "cocoa-ey" taste, use he Ghirardelli's cocoa and chocolate powder mix. It makes a fantastic chocolate sauce too.

My brownies burned, but that's just because my oven is awful. The brownies turned out more like cake than brownies. Any ideas what I did?

I tried these mainly because I was having a sweet attack and realized I had everything already in my kitchen to make them...aside from the cooking time being way off the flavor left much to be desired...they were very bland and not nearly sweet enough...I guess they would please a pallate that doesn't like things too sweet but who doesn't want their brownies to be chocolately sweet?...they lacked the depth of chocolate flavor and in my opinion cocoa does not compare to real chocolate...for the ultimate brownie try Ina Garten's "outrageous brownies"-now that's a brownie for the keeper file!

These are really good brownies. I do agree with another reviewer, they do not exactly remind me of a traditional brownie. I did cook it in a slightly larger pan. Hence, the brownies came out perfect with the instruction provided.

These brownies have great texture; but the flavor isn't quite right. I can't place what is wrong exactly but they just don't taste much like brownies. They took a lot longer to bake too - about an hour and fifteen minutes. But maybe my oven is off, I don't know.
Maybe with some tweaking this could be an ideal recipe, but I won't be using the recipe again as is.

I've tried almost every brownie recipe I come across in search of one that properly satifies my chocolate obsession. Most of them hide the flavor under a load of flour and end up tasting rather bland. Not this one! There's loads of fudgey goodness in every bite. Thanks, Alton!
