WOW!!! This is the best brownie recipe ever!!! They melt in your mouth. Perfect to warm and serve with vanilla ice cream. Be prepared to sink into a pure "chocolate love" induced coma.

You don't have to take my word for this, since I've never made brownies from scratch before. And this despite the fact that I've bought more than one cookbook with just brownie (and blondie recipes. Something about AB inspires me to make something from every episode...even the wacky crazy stuff (okay, not the wacky, crazy stuff. I love these brownies. They've got a rich chocolatey flavor and a dense, fudgey texture. I really liked that I can play fast and loose with the baking time; short for gooey brownies (my favorite, longer for crunchy corners and stackability.

This recipe is not much more trouble to make than a box of brownie mix from the store shelf; save the straining of the brown sugar. I gave up on that and dumped the brown sugar in the mix. I will look for a better strainer because I'm sure Alton has his reasons. In any case I purchased cocoa for ten dollars rather than opting for the standard Hershey's which was only $3.49. It was worth it! One problem.... I could not stop eating the darn things!

These were great! I loved the fact that they were a little bitter and very chewy gooey good! My husband ate 3/4 and I ate the rest. OK OK I ate 3/4 and my husband ate the rest! : My 2 year old kept saying "It's delicious Mommy" with a whole lot of incredibly cute enthusiasm. I'll definitely be making them again soon!

I'm usually a big fan of Alton's, but I have to say these brownies were disappointing. Not bad, just not great. You're not missing much if you don't try them.

I love most of AB's receipes, but this one was not so hot. These brownies seemed very bitter and not very sweet. Even with the very high quality cocoa powder I used, they didn't taste any better than a boxed mix.
