This goes nicely with the Meatloaf recipe that Alton Brown has.

In fact, I think my family would starve if it wasn't for Alton and Good Eats!

Followed the recipe to the letter and the mashed potatoes came out fantastic! I was surprised at how flavorful they were considering I didn't add any additional salt, butter or pepper after they were done cooking. These mashed potatoes definitely stand on their own and no gravy is needed whatsoever.

Whenever the menu calls for mashed potatoes, I will definitely use this recipe!

Hell yea! Alton and I have the exact same masher!
I agree with a previous review in that sometimes I prefer simpler less rich mashed potatoes to go with my pot roast. This recipe was really tasty (thus the 5 star rating, but too rich to accompany some of my other dishes. But this is personal taste. I will try this again with simple milk instead of half and half!

I felt the flavor of this dish was too rich for the way I prefer mashed potatoes to taste. I prefer the humble flavor of the potato to be the star and in this dish, the garlic and cheese overpowered. I used 3 large garlic cloves and I strained the garlic out of the half and half after heating it to a simmer. I did not use parmesan, but rather romano and only about 3 oz. but I still felt the richness of the cheese overpowered my tastebuds. I did like the texture but felt it was missing something, perhaps a little butter flavor. I have made garlic mashed potatoes in the past by just using a bit of garlic powder and I think I prefer that flavor to the flavor of the smashed fresh garlic. However, my husband liked it fine, and he's not that into potatoes, so it could be a matter of individual taste. BTW, I cooked the potatoes for about 12 minutes and they were perfectly tender but this of course depends on the size of your "dice" -- mine was about 8 cuts per potato.

I halved the recipe since I didn't need that much. Still garlicky enough and creamy enough! It satisfied our garlic craving! Loved it! My sons added a little pat of butter to their serving, but it didn't need it. Try it you will love it with oven baked chicken!

I like that this was an easy recipe with few ingredients. I tweaked it a bit by boiling the potatoes in chicken broth instead of water. Also, I roasted the garlic before adding to the half and half and I think that added a more robust garlic flavor - I love the taste of garlic. My husband and two sons commented how delicious and creamy the mashed potatoes were and all went back for seconds and thirds. Alton, this recipe is now Nzingha's creamy garlic mashed potatoes, lol. Thanks!
