@ Beencountry...skip the imitation vanilla and use vanilla bean paste or pure vanilla extract instead. Imitation vanilla is made from artificial flavorings, most of which come from wood byproducts and often contain chemicals--not something you want in your food. Vanilla bean paste will give the same speckled look that the vanilla bean does and the flavor is great! If you can't find the paste, just use pure vanilla extract instead. FYI...if you are a Costco member, they often sell Madagascar vanilla beans at a reasonable price. Hope this helps!

I know this is for reviews, But instead I have a question, What if I can not get my hands on vanilla bean? What would I use to substitute this?? Thanks!!!!

I love... love... love this recipe, I made it for a little get together and my friends loved it.... it was easy to make and very tasty, I am actually making it now and instead of using just cream I used some evaporated milk and regular vanilla because I didn't have vanilla bean.... Can't wait for the finished product.... Thanks Alton, this is my go to recipe from now on....

awesome! very smooth-and delicious! i would not torch it until you're ready to eat it, we torched all 6 and put some into the fridge for later....and the sugar got soft, tried to retorch and then tried resugar and retorch, but could not get effect of burnt/hard sugar again-still good, but no longer two different textures when eating.
this recipe was easier and cheaper than i expected!

This recipe is awesome! I have always loved creme brulee but have been too scared to try to make it because I thought it would be difficult. Alton really makes it simple and easy! My 11 year old son and I have made this recipe over 10 times now. It always comes out delicious. One thing I have noticed is my cooking times are not always the same depending on how high the water is on the ramekin and which ramekins I use. So be sure to check before you take out of oven. If they are not done, I just leave in the oven for an additional 5-10 minutes.
