Started making this soup last fall and now it's fall/winter time again and I couldn't wait to start making it again! My husband is a "fishetarian", so I use veggie broth or veggie "chicken" broth and it works just fine. Also, we don't have a stick blender but we really like it chunky anyway. I've noted some folks have complained about too much curry flavor, and I have a theory about that - try a different type of curry powder. I got some delicious mild-yet-subtly-intense curry powder from Trader Joe's last year and used it all up, and now (of course, it's TJ's they don't carry it anymore. I tried two other types of curry powder and it was either too strong or tasted weird. I finally got some good stuff (Sun Brand Madras Curry Powder and am back to my happy soup-making!

This was so easy to prepare! It was fantastic and very tasty. My husband loved it and until he tried this he has vowed that he hated split pea soup. Thanks Alton!

I added a few carrots and celery stalks with the onions at the beginning and it was great. Also, some red pepper flakes add some more good spice, if you like that.

I made this soup tonight. It is absolutely the BEST split pea soup we have ever had!! Plus it was so easy to make! I added 1 1/2 cups of chopped Niman Ranch ham after I had pureed it, so it ended up being a complete meal. Thanks Alton! You Rock!

I tried this recipe out for dinner, and it was a huge success. The difficulty of this recipe is listed as medium, but I think it should be concidered easy. The hardest thing was sweating the onions and garlic.

    Definately worth a try.

I add bacon (or ham, a couple of carrots and one turnip....eight hours in the slow cooker and then use the blender on 3/4 of it....always better than any caned soup!
