This egg nog is hands down the best thing ever! Alton made me a hero last Xmas eve when I made this for the whole family. Even guests who are afraid of anything raw/rare/not overcooked loved it. Uncooked is totally the way to go. Like Alton says, use fresh eggs and you shouldn't have an intestinal problem. Love how the bourbon flavor gives it that warmth.

My husband and I avoided eggnog at all costs. At parties, in the store, any where it came up we were sure to steer clear! Until we watched this episode of Good Eats and my husband wanted to just try the recipe. We happened to have the ingredients on hand, so I told him that he could give it a shot, but he was on his own, I was not trying that stuff. Much to both of our surprise, IT WAS FANTASTIC! Both the cooked and the uncooked are wonderful. We will never drink any other kind of eggnog. Once you've had the best, the rest just tastes....well, less than the best. It's a wonderful holiday treat!! You have no need to look any farther, you have found the greatest eggnog recipe out there!

Made the uncooked version and it was wonderful. I don't know if I will ever buy store bought again. I never knew homemade eggnog would be so easy and tasty. Will make plenty more next time.

OK, I made three versions of Egg Nog to see which one was the best. First, I made Paula Deen's recipe. That one did not please me - I didn't like my eggnog being in two layers. The top layer is whipped cream and egg white, and the bottom is bourbon and milk. Basically, unless you open your mouth very wide in a rather vulgar manner and suck in the froth on top, all you are getting is bourbon and milk.
Next, I made Alton's uncooked version. This was fantastic! I was very well-pleased. But I really wanted to know if the cooked version would please me more. I made the cooked version, and that was also very good. It was thick and frothy, but I didn't like it as much as the uncooked version. It is just as Alton says - the uncooked version is more refreshing and goes down real easy. I do not mind dying from a food-bourne illness if this eggnog is my last meal.

This was excellent, egg whites included, but the most superior flavor is obtained after letting the nog mellow in the refrigerator overnight. I made the cooked version.

As a kid, my mother would make some conglomeration of eggs and milk and put cinnamon on top and think it was the best. I grew up not knowing what the fuss was all about. I tried some store bought egg nog and needless to say that didn't end the mystery for me. But I was intrigued by Alton's recipe and since he hasn't let me down yet, I had to try it. I made it exactly like the recipe, fresh nutmeg and all, and I thought it was divine. I cannot wait to hand this out over the holidays! Alton, you are my guru.!!!

This is the best eggnog I have ever tasted! It was so easy to make and it is so delicious. I added a tiny drop of vanilla and a pinch more nutmeg and I had it right on! It didn't even last the whole night in my house!

I made this eggnog tonight for the first time. I tasted the base (the egg yolk part while it was still warm...I made the cooked version...and thought it was delicious! I put in the amount of Bourbon that is stated and found it to be a little overpowering but that can easily be cut back next time. Once the mixture was cooled and added the whipped egg whites and completely ruined this eggnog. It was SO much better before the egg whites were added. Now it is just foamy, not sweet enough and rather bland tasting. I'd recommend this recipe highly...but only if you skip the addition of the egg whites.

I have been looking for an eggnog recipe for qiute some time now and when I watched this one on Alton's show I hade to try it. I didn't try the cooked one, but I did make the uncooked one. I made it for our Holiday get together and everyone loved it. I even made the kids their own a non- alcoholic batch and they also loved it.

This gets better the longer you let it sit in the fridge. We are going to give this out as gifts next year.
