I have never had real eggnog (except for out of a supermarket container! and I never liked it. BUT...after tasting this I am a convert! It was yummy. I used rum instead bz I don't like bourbon. I made both the cooked and original version. The cooked one is creamy almost like a shake (YUM! and the original is also very good..tasty. I will definitely make this every year!

I have been following Good Eats since Season 1... and I have done MANY of the recipes and learned so so much from Alton Brown... Cooking is now an enjoyable event that my wife and I now share thanks to Mr. Brown!

Now I got to admit - I never really understood the fascination of Eggnog. I have tried it numerous times - but I never really understood what people actually liked about the stuff.. Quite frankly it was always disappointing to say the least.. UNTIL NOW!

In the beginning of this episode Alton says, and I quote, "...there are a lot of folks out there that say 'I don't like eggnog,' but trust me, those are the folks that have never had real eggnog..."

Ok - let me state that truer words have never been spoken... I most certainly fell into that catagory... cause I made this and it was HEAVENLY! - now I did the cooked version... cause I am a little leery of the ole raw egg business... but I am probably going to make it raw for just myself and not the remainder of the family etc... the store bought stuff... well I don't know why they call it eggnog cause it don't taste anything like this - it is phenomenal to say the least!

Alton - Christmas is pretty serious 'Good Eats" around my place at the holidays... Brined Turkeys... Succulent gravies thickened with good eats Roux... Hams and eggnog... true brew coffee, divine home made ice creams, and so many other wonderful Good Eats... that all our friends don't want to leave!

That crap they sell at the store should not be called eggnog. Alton's is incredible. Smooth, not too sweet, delicate, absolutely heavenly. Merry Christmas to me!

Ludicrously delicious. Beating the whites back into the rest of the mixture can yield too much foam, so be warned.

Please try this eggnog before you buy any store bought....you will not be sorry! For our family this is Christmas eve and what a better way to bring in the cheer. This recipe could not have been easier (20 minutes from start to end. Thanks!

Alton is right in that it is COMPLETLEY different than store-bought eggnog. I found the experience similar to drinking whipped cream, because... well, you are. For a person used to drinking 1% milk, this is really rich and I can only drink a few ounces before my stomach is overwhelmed. Still, it is delicious, and even more so after sitting in the fridge overnight gave the nutmeg flavor a chance to permeate.

I used high-quality eggs (the ones that cost 5 times as much as the generic store brand and coddled them first (boil for 1 minute, so I could make the uncooked version without any worries.

My husband and I love eggnog during the holidays, and this is the best. He, however, is not a bourbon drinker, so I make a second batch with Amaretto or Frangelico, and we're both happy.

Very easy to make with a stand mixer - just make sure to shake the "nog" before serving

Very tasty and easy to make. I use half rum and half bourbon and the flavors complement perfectly. Make a double batch to start out with since it goes fast and you'll be making a second batch anyways.

Very delicious recipe; very rich. This gives users the idea of just adding heavy cream to any eggnog, which I do to mine, and makes it good, not as good as this one
