Alton does it again. My fish fearing kid loved these. I did buy fresh tortillas at the International market. I also used store bought crema. Next time I'll make my own. The store brand didn't taste like it had any chilies or salt in it. It was very bland. It was simple, awesome, and very little clean up.

I am addicted to fish tacos, and these are the best I've had.
I am also unable to follow instructions, and here are the modifications I made:
    - for the crema; I used three chipotle chilles (they were very, very mild
    - for the fish; I cooked three strips of bacon and then instead of olive oil I cooked the fish in the bacon fat.
    - for the final tacos; layered one strip of bacon, chopped fish, red cabbage, crema, then added slices of avocados drenched in fresh lime juice (the reminder goes into the margarita : and a few slices of freeze dried asian pears. The sweetnes of the asian pears go very well with the cabbage.

OMG! This was so incredibly simple AND delicious!

I cheated by using El Milagro corn tortillas purchased from the Hispanic section in my local farmer's market. I also cheated by purchasing Salvadorian crema, also found in the hispanic section (you can use any type of crema though, it doesn't have to be Salvadorian. I just used that one because it tasted the best and was 'healthier' than the others available and mixing one chipotle in adobo sauce per 1/2 a cup of crema with a pinch of salt.

I followed the recipe for everything else to exact directions and the tacos came out AMAZING! My husband is a Chef and he didn't speak throughout the meal; instead, he was smiling and giving me looks high approval and grunting noises of extreme satisfaction!

We will probably be making these at least once a week, they were that good! Thanks, Alton!

OMG Y'all! This was better than any fish taco I've ever eaten in a restaurant, and believe me I've had a lot of them! I'm sure it didn't hurt that I used fresh from the gulf grouper that my husband caught earlier today, but I think these would be great with any fish. The marinade is absolutely stellar. I just found the recipe today, so didn't have time to make the creme fraiche, but I made Paula Dean's remolaude instead, which was great on the tacos. I will be making these as long as I can stand in front of the stove!

Although I cheated, and just used creme fraiche with a chipotle in adobo rather than making my own crema, I gotta tell you: these are amazing. The marinade is stellar. And because I can't help myself, I added avocado to the tacos. Pretty combination of flavors (and colors!, and suddenly in the middle of winter I'm off to a beach somewhere in Mexico. Thank you, Alton!

I don't like sea food but my husband and oldest daughter does. I made this tonight for dinner, got rave reviews. The recipe was easy to follow and smelled really good. I cooked fish on one side for 3 minutes, flipped it then covered it with foil and turned off heat until dinner was ready. Alton, thanks for the great recipe :-

Became a big fish taco fan when vacationing in SoCal a number of years ago. However, living in the MidAtlantic area on the East Coast isn't exactly fish taco country, so I jumped at the chance to try Alton Brown's fish taco recipe. It's absolutely fantastic; have made it many times & it's been a huge hit.

This is a great recipe, I didn't have to marinate the fish for very long either. Only additions I made were a little bit of turmeric and added chili flakes for a kick for an adult version. Served this with store bought soft taco's, salad and mango salsa with an appetizer of nacho's. Kids ate theirs with cheese as they seems to like that with everything remotely Mexican!

It was okay. Didn't really have a lot of flavor aside from the chipotle. The fish by itself would have been good, but once I made up the taco with toppings I couldn't taste it at all.
