WOW! You can't even buy a fruit cake in a store or restaurant that that comes even close to the taste and texture of this cake. This is the first time i've tackled a recipe like this(the wife usually does 99% of the baking. It's amazingly easy.End results are fantastic.Did i mention WOW! Alton Brown is my new hero!

I have not tried this recipe yet, but does anyone know if I can cook it in a pressure cooker? I know it will be great because I trust Alton's take on cooking everything.!

Fabulous! Made a dozen miniloaves last year and have requests to fill this Christmas. Added some chopped up dates and figs. Contemplating baking it in a 13x8 cake pan this year and making cake balls out of it with homemade cream cheese frosting and vanilla candy coating, as I've decided this year is my year to make boxes of handmade candy for gifts. Also made Alton's sugarplums, and they were special, too.

Not a big fruitcake fan myself. I made this for a friend and my dad because they were unable to find a decent fruitcake. After tasting it myself, I decided to make another, and another... Delicious cake. Very flavorful and not that difficult to make. I already have requests for this year.

Eric; By now you've probably discovered it isn't really a big deal. Consider you've got all that macerated fruit (blueberries and cherries and such that are going to bleed some of their color into the liquid that's mixing with a medley of lovely spices, and the color can seem a bit odd. But once baked it's just nice, dark CAKE, and by the time you're done soaking that puppy in the alcoholic libation of your choice for a few weeks (I like whiskey myself, you'll have a tasty cake that doubles as a cocktail! !

I'm a little bit concerned - I have one of these fruitcakes in the oven right now, and assembly was fine - up until I added the eggs. When I did, it turned a rather sick-looking gray-green color, and I wanted to make sure that this isn't unusual.

this cake is awesome. my daughter and i made this for our husbands as they love fruitcake and they say its the best ever. we soaked it for 3 weeks every 3 days with a basting brush so it was a little strong. will spritz next time. it was a little time consuming chopping the fruit but definitely worth it. thanks alton!
