So good! I've only had better once, at a small B&B, and it was solely the sauce they used (a lavender honey butter which I plan to try and recreate for this recipe! :

YUMMY! That was the response I received after my crew took the first few bites of this delicious breakfast. Took a moment especially since my youngest isn't too fond of french toast to begin with. I didn't have any half and half so I just used 2 % milk and also tossed in a sprinkle of sugar and cinnamon and nutmeg. Honey added a magnificent touch, tho I would recommend just a teenie bit more than suggested. The outside was wonderfully crunchy and the inside was oooooh *drools* so soft but not the least bit soggy. This was so easy to make and really didn't take too long at all. Believe me if you have a little extra time this dish is well worth it! My husband just asked me if I would make it for dinner too and this time put sliced bananas and drizzled warm peanut butter on it. Good with or without syrup or cinnamon apples or powdered sugar just plan good! I wouldn't expect less from A.B. he is a dream for making things good and easy. Keep up the good work.

I've never been big on French toast, but after watching the show decided to give it a try. It was wonderful. It came out just like Alton said it should...crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. I made it with Challah bread and it was great. I think next time I might add some nutmeg or cinnamon to the wash just to see what it taste like.

I've always considered myself a good cook, put could never pull off the seemingly simple french toast. I've never even thought of finishing it in the oven- no more soggy bread at my house! Thanks so much! Now I'm looking for a great "stuffed" french toast recipe...any shows on that coming up Alton?

Alton's procedure for French toast worked quite well for me. I got a whole of almost old white bread from our whole foods supermarket, some fresh eggs and half/half, and followed his directions to leave the bread out the night before. I mixed things up in the morning and got delightfully crisp and tasty French toast (in some parts of PA, we just call this "egg bread".

Without a doubt the best I've ever made. I love putting the French Bread from the night before to good use too! I'm gonna try some other types of bread.

My brother's and I really enjoyed eating the french toast. The honey adds a nice flavor to it.

Do not leave bread in batter for as long as shown. A few seconds on each side is fine. Couldn't taste the honey. It wasn't too bad but I expected more.
