This was soooooo good. I used puerto rican bread, sliced them real thick. Best french toast I've ever had. The kids loved it. I added nutmeg and cinnamon as well.

This is a great recipe. I used challah bread, which I don't usually like and it was delicious. I added just a little bit of cinnamon and vanilla. One thing to check before you start. Alton uses a pie pan. My 9" pie pan did not hold two pieces of bread. I had to soak them one at a time. I ran short on custard for the last piece of bread. Maybe I cut the brad a little too thick, 1/2" or so? Next time I will use one of my square baking dishes as the soaker tub for my bread. I think I will also make a fruit compote to go with it. Yummmm.

My husband & family loved this, "yum-o" french toast!!! This will become a family tradition in our house. Especially around the holidays when we have a lot of out of town family. I love watching Good Eats...thanks, Alton!!
