This recipe is a keeper! I also made it a square, so made full use of the pastry and no need to shape. I used a mandolin slicer the second time instead of the peeler - was quicker and worked as long as you use the thin setting. Also tried half pear and half apple the last time because that's what I had on hand and it was still great. It's impressive but so easy. Love that in a recipe! Served it with homemade goat cheese ice cream. Got rave reviews.

Great and easy recipe! I actually just used the Pillsbury Puff Pastry Shells, put the baked apples in there and the jam on it, and it turned out great!

I am very anal when it comes to recipes, so when my mom told me not to use the vegetable peeler to cut the apples wafer thin, I was a little bothered. She cut em' too thick of course and I couldn't make the cool pinwheel shape. Instead ended up with a shape I couldn't describe to you. Not only that she mashed it to get to more tarts out of one sheet. Those 2 didn't puff up and turned out like crap. So I made them again my way and they turned out much better. 1. You must cut whatever fruit you use with a vegetable peeler. 2. DO NOT MASH THE DOUGH TO GET MORE TARTS OUT OF ONE SHEET. It won't work. 3. You can eat them warm or cold with a side of ketchup. . . . forget the ketchup. Just enjoy them.

This recipe works great with fresh pears and peaches, as well. Last time I made this tart, I forgot to pick up some apricot jam. In a pinch with guests due, I used a little warmed up maple syrup instead. Worked fabulously, and the maple flavor was perfect with the apples. And no one was the wiser.

    Love ya Alton!
