This is an easy and quick recipe (thus 2 stars - but has virtually no taste. I did sub about 1/3 red pepper flakes for the arbol chile, but it was undetectable on the heat scale (and they were fresh As others have said, additional spices/herbs would be a welcome enhancement. The temp and time elements are spot on (the third star.

This is a wonderful recipe for healthy snacking.
However, when one does not have all the ingredients in the pantry, it's time to improvise.
I substituted the chili with crushed red chili flakes. Add as little or as much as you can tolerate!
I also added smoked paprika to the ginger. This was really good.
I used gluten-free, sodium free soy sauce to the pan since I am gluten intolerant.
I did not have the Sesame Oil, I just omitted it. I am sure it is delicious.

The almonds turned out wonderfully! Be sure to use your imagination and palate as a guide.

Remember, necessity is the mother of all invention.

Personally, I love ginger and was hoping for more of a ginger blast, but the ginger-phobes in the family really like these.

As for the recipe: This is great! I'm not going to buy trail mix flavored-type almonds again.

Great recipe. Light and crunchy almonds with just the right amount of salt and seasoning.
I left out the peppers because my girlfriend can sense 1 part per million of anything hot. She still thinks they are too hot because of the ginger but that's crazy. Personally I would double the hot stuff, but all in all the recipe is awesome.
BTW: I had to go to an Asian store (Uwajamia to find the dark sesame oil which just tastes more like toasted sesame seeds than the regular sesame oil.

I recorded the show, and will be writting down the lists later. If no one else beats me to it, I will post later tonight or tomorrow.

Did anyone get the food items Alton talked about at the start of this show? He mentioned eating fish thre times a week and only one dessert a week and nothing with diet sweetners. If so, I'd sure like to get that information since it seemed realistic and doable.

They turned out geat and were easy and quick to throw together. Could use a bit more heat and some sweetness would be nice too, but that would not really be keeping to the theme of the show.

good flavor and, as the first person who did a review said, a great starting point for getting creative with other spices. I would like to make them more spicy, as in hotter, but I know that will only make it more difficult to eat only 2 oz. a day.

One slight modification I did was to purchase some spiced Olive Oil (at Kroger that already contained the arbol chile. You may have trouble finding "dark" Sesame oil but I found "Toasted" Sesame oil, which is probably the same thing.

Great mix of spices and easy to throw together; have been nibbling on these over the last few days and the biggest challenge is only eating 1-2 oz/day as Alton suggests!

Could see trying other spice combinations (garlic, onion, cumin, curry, etc., but was really pleased with this a starting point.
