Well I have been wanting to try this for a long time now and finally worked up the nerve. Dry breast meat is a HUgE pet peve of mine. Anyway it was very easy and turned out amazing. Very moist and full of flavor. Turkey sammys and soups here I come.

This year I was elected to host thanksgiving at my house. I had never cooked a turkey before and my family always made such dry turkey that I don't usually eat. I made my husband get a honeybaked ham (just in case but this turkey was so good no one ate the ham. the only problem I had with this was I couldn't lift the 5gal bucket out of or in to the sink.
Thanks, Alton for making my first turkey a good one.

A star has been born on 11/25/04 a new yearly turkey cooking tradition. Thank you, my family thought it was the juiciest and most delicious bird in 25yrs of cooking birds.

First time I made it - my family raved about it - said it was the best turkey they've ever eaten! It was golden brown and very moist. The probe thermometer was a great way to cook the turkey without overcooking! Thanks, Alton!

What everyone said is true...this was so moist and delicious the I had only a half a sandwich baggie of meat left out of a 23 pound turkey. And the gravy was awesome (thank goodness I have dressing left to pour it on. Alton rocks!

This is the sixth year tradition of Thanksgiving at my house; this was the best turkey to date..and the easiest!
Thank you for freeing me from useless basting and 6 hours of useless oven time. WONDERFUL!

I made this for my first family thanksgiving that I hosted and EVERYONE LOVED IT - it was so moist and so delicious. HOWEVER (and this is not AB's fault AT ALL, my bird was a 22 pounder and the turkey calculator on Food TV (which calculates according to roasting until 170 degrees said 5 and a half hours and my turkey was done in 4. And it TOTALLY messed up my timing in the kitchen. Someone else I know had the same problem. The solution? Take an hour off the Food Network's calculator. 10 degrees takes about an hour. So, GREAT TURKEY, bad calculator.

I have always made my Thanksgiving turkey in one of those oven bags, but after I saw this episode of GoodEats, I wanted to try it this way. Boy, was it GoodEats all right! My family LOVED it! It turned out really tender and juicy! I have never seen a turkey (in real life that turned out so brown and pretty, and to top it all off, it was so tender! YUMMY! I will never go back to the oven bag again!

I hosted my first Thanksgiving dinner this year using this recipe. It was FANTASTIC! I usually don't care for turkey because it's always been too dry. This was so moist and tender you could cut it with a fork. My husband said it was better than any turkey his mother had ever cooked (she wasn't here, of course. And my toughest critic, my mom, actually said it was wonderful. She doesn't give out compliments lightly, so it must be true. Thank you!
