These were easy to prepare, and I will use them instead of store-bought. Raw sunflower seeds are hard to find--I used roasted, and these worked fine. Not too sweet, and they curbed my hunger for a long time. Any way to make them bind a little better?

These are really good. The second time I made them with cranberries, cherries, and candied ginger! Yum. Also, spread mixture in 9 x 13 since I prefer thinner, crunchier granola bars.
    Thanks Alton!

I have to say these were so yummy. I used macadamia nuts i/o the almonds and they turned out fabulous. I pretty much finished them between my husband and I over 3 days.

So many people loved these I am not sure what went wrong for us. Tried to follow it just as written. I did like the toasted almond slices combined with the fruit. Also the bars stayed together nicely. However, the toasted wheat germ wasn't a good taste for me. We actually ended tossing them out. If I dare to try them a again I will skip the wheat germ completely.

We all loved them! I used shelled sunflower seeds, and added Pecans also. I also substituted Smart Balance for Butter, and Splenda Brown Sugar! They crumble, but WHO CARES! We put them in baggies and snack on them, add to yogart, ice cream, cereal, YUMMIE : I also doubled the recepie cause they go FAST! I may try and use LESS HONEY next time, MORE SMART BALANCE for the Buttery taste! I even sliced and chopped granny smith apples, they dry out in the oven anyway..

Tried to post with details. Would not accept. Too much heat during toasting. Things started to smoke. Why would you use unshelled sunflower seeds. Won't eat peanuts with the shells on or shrimp tails either. Hardest part of making this was getting it out of the dish when done. Will try foil lined w/oil next time.

    Tasted good, but too crumbly.

This was such a great recipe for me because my son is allergic to nuts and peanuts. I made it with extra sunflower kernels and added dried cranberries. I mailed it to him at college and he said that he used the pieces that broke in the mail as granola cereal!
