Very Tasty. I also put about 1/2 cup chopped pecans and I substituted Flaxseed for Wheat Germ. These have become a staple in our house. Husband and kids adore them.

delicious flavor. the bars did not hold together at all. some of the other commenter mention cooking the honey for longer... this is what I will try next time. in the meantime, I have trail mix to eat.

These bars are really good! I'm so used to eating store bought bars I never knew a granola bar could taste so fresh and have so much flavor. I'm not sure why people complained about the sweetness. I did not find them overly sweet at all. I will be making these again and again without changing a single ingredient. I do however enjoy a chewier bar. So I may decrease the cook time by 5 minutes or so next time.

Great recipe! I too, cooked the honey/sugar mix until it was foamy and no longer grainy. I substituted unsweetened coconut flakes for the sunflower seeds I used dried apricots, pineapple, and cranberries. It all seemed a bit sweet so I added 1 teaspoon spice via chipotle chile pepper power. PACK THEM DOWN WELL with greased spoon before the oven for best results. I think the negative reviews missed this step and didn't let the honey cook long enough. These can be made into smaller bars because they are so nutritionally dense and satisfying. Thanks Alton for the recipe! Awesome as usual!

Alton's recipes are usually the acme of culinary chemistry. This recipe confirms that! Since I think one shouldn't rate a recipe that wasn't followed to the letter, I am rating the actual recipe. This is the best granola EVER! The cherries (among the other ingredients make is so sweet and chewy! I take it to my high school students when we go ice skating over the holidays. Thank you so much Alton for doing the research for us! Saves us all a great deal of time in the kitchen. Gotta love the guy! p.s. the photo looks awful! Gotta fix that y'all

I found what determines whether these hold together well or crumble is how long you cook the honey, brown sugar mixture. I've used molasses instead of honey at times and various other combination of ingredients with great results each time. If I want a harder bar, I just cook the sugars longer, which is what you do in making candy. I've used peanut butter instead of regular butter, added cinnamon, used ground flax seed instead of wheat germ, used pumpkin seeds and numerous other combinations and they always come out great. Which is why I think it's a fabulous recipe. Variety is the spice of life! I've packed them in air tight containers for road trips and have found my traveling partners eat them up quickly! Very versatile and adaptable recipe to suit any taste.

okay, i didn't make these, my husband did! They were really tasty and the fact that my husband made them without my help shows how really easy they are to make. It's so versatile too, you could use virtually any dried fruit. I believe he put in dried apricot, banana chips, and sunflower seeds. Yummy! We cut them all up and wrapped them in plastic wrap. Great snacks to take to work!

Great recipe. I did change a few things.. First, I tried it with 4oz molasses and 2.5oz honey. The molasses seemed to give it a richer taste. Plus when I compared it to the Honey only batch, the batch with molasses seemed to stay together better. Also, I used a buttered CupCake pan to bake individual portions so I did not have to cut them later. I used a number 40 scooper to keep the portions the same. And I used a second cupcake pan to compress the mixture into the first pan. Also, I'm not an Almond fan, I used crushed peanuts. As for the fruit, equal parts died blueberries, dried cranberries (craisins and raisins.
