This recipe was super simple to make. My hubby just had heart surgery and missed his sweet snacks. With a few minor adjustments he was able to enjoy his treats again. This is a recipe that we will keep making over and over again. Thanks Alton.

I'm blown away by these granola bars! My girlfriend and I just made them and I have to say they are tastier than any granola bar I've ever bought in the store. Awesome! Easy to make as well!

Question...Will a pie dish work fine for this recipe instead of a square dish? that's all i have...

Great for the trail, (very filling they keep well also. Cut before they cool all the way, they dry harder than I would have though. Will make again.

This is a great recipe. However, the second time doing it, I did not have enough honey. I had marshmallows and used them in the sauce pan when melting the butter and brown sugar together. I combined all ingredients and baked. My result was ooey gooey and fell apart. Just a heads up, folks. Do not substitute with marshmallows.

We really liked these bars. I used pumpkin seeds and sliced almonds with blueberries, cranberries and apricots. I used a 9 X13 pan bc I don't have an 8X8 and they turned out great. I will try and tweak it next time with a little less brown sugar and honey....Will definately make again.

This is the 2nd granola bar recipe I tried and this is what I'm talkin' about! Easy to make, crunchy and delicious! Instead of sliced almonds, I had whole almonds, which I chopped. I also added about a 1/4 cup of white chocolate chips which probably makes it more sweet than the actual recipe, but it's still good! I love that I can taste the honey and it was crunchy enough to withstand milk in a bowl!
I can't wait to make these again!

I agree with person right before me that you have to get them out of the pan while still a little warm. To dramatically reduce the crumbling, right after I toast the seeds/grains I put them in the blender for a few pulses. I don't make a complete powder out of it, but just enough powder to fill the cracks and cut the size of each seed/grain down a bit. This really cuts down on the crumbling both during cutting and eating. BTW, I use the ingredients exactly as the recipe states except I prefer my sunflower seeds to not have shells on them.

1 No shells on sunflower seeds ? even birds don?t eat the shells!

2 The mixture of sugar and honey can be warmed over a water bath ? that way you don?t have to worry about overheating it.

3 To press everything down in the glass pan you can wet your hand in water, don?t need oil.

4 Most importantly, you have to cut the bars and take them out of the pan while they are still slightly warm. It they are hot they will crumble, if they are cold ? good luck getting them out at all.

5 I substituted wheat germ with flax meal. I liked the taste much better (but it?s a matter of taste I guess ? I liked the stronger taste of flax, and it probably has more health benefits. Also, at Whole Foods it?s 4 times less expensive.

These are so quick to make and delicious! Next time I'll try a variation as others have suggested, but these are very good. I'm eating mine right now with some milk, and it's great as cereal!
