Thank you Alton for giving me something so easy and quick to make that tastes so good! I believe I saw this particular episode. I was just sitting at the table with some half a bag of nuts and dried fruit. I thought! Make granola with this Cheryl! It was a small amount so I wouldn't be upset if it didn't turn out right. It was wonderful! I love your show. You have taught me lot through the years.

    Thank you.

I think I must have overcooked these like the other reviewers said, because they came out very crunchy and are difficult to cut into bars. I accidentelly used a 9 X 13 pan and cooked for 25 minutes like the recipe said, I think the larger pan must have made a difference in the cooking time. The taste is ok, I substituted chopped almonds and walnuts for the nuts, and I used dried cranberries and raisins for the fruits. I would try them again using the smaller pan.

The best part about these granola bars is that I didn't have to read the ingredients on the backs of 50 different boxes of granola bars at the grocery store, only to give up in frustration for all the nasty stuff these people put in their "healthy" foods. These bars are delicious and easy to make. Need I say more?

These are the best granola bars I've ever had! You'll never bother with store-bought again. The only problem is stopping yourself from devouring the whole pan!

I've tried making these twice now and are just too hard. I can't cut them into bars. They shatter into pieces and are hard to eat. I must be doing something wrong. I have followed the recipe exactly. How can I soften them enough to cut into bars? The granola tastes great in my yogurt though!

These bars are easy and tasty. Like another reviewer said, don't over cook them or they get almost hard.Alton Brown is awesome.

Thought this recipe was great, although mine turned out more like cereal granola.

A thought for reviewers who add flax seed - better to add as you take the granola out of the oven (or even better yet - add freshly ground flax seed just before munching as baking takes away many of the nutritional benefits. Heat processed flax seed still contains fiber, but that is sadly about all that's left.

I made a few changes...I used instant apple and cinnamon oatmeal (6-8 envelopes and like the other review I added 5 marshmellows and omitted the vanilla. I also used cashews instead of the other nuts and finished with dried cranberries. Changed the baking to 325 for 20 minutes. Once cooled and cut into squares I dipped the bottoms in melted chocolate and dizzle the top with white chocolate. Family and friends loved them . Eventhough I made the changes it is a great recipe and it gave me the a great starting point. Thanks Alton. Hint: if you have a silplat or a silicone sheet pan liner use it! It will help with the granola sticking to the bottom of the pan.
