This recipe is the all-time favorite in our home. I made several of the other recipes listed and my husband requested this one to be permanent. Every Sunday a new batch of granola is made for the week. I leave out the cashews and use dried cherries instead of raisins. The results are still fabulous!

This was my first attempt at making granola and it came out wonderful! I lined my baking pans with aluminum for easier cleanup and I'm glad I did! I deleted the cashews but I added in sunflower seeds instead. I also mixed in honey for half of the maple syrup amount as I don't like a huge maple flavor. After it was cooled, I saved half of the mixture in an airtight container and is still crunchy after three days. The other half I added raisins and chopped dried cherries and dried apricots. That half is a little more chewy three days later than the half without the fruit. They are both very tasty, but the fruit does change the granola itself a little! I will definitely make this again. Wish I had added a little cinnamon as others have said. Thanks Alton!! ♥

Made this for the first time today and it is FABULOUS! We have multiple food allergies in our house and it was so easy to adapt to make it allergy-friendly. I'm looking forward to experimenting with different combinations of dried fruit and maybe some cinnamon or ginger. Not sure if I'll ever want to buy commercial granola again!

I have to admit, I didn't follow the recipe exactly. I omitted the coconut because my daughter won't eat it, and the raisins because I don't like them. I didn't have any cashews on hand, so my granola was just oats, almonds and Alton's coating. Still, I think we got the basic flavor. This was delicious, and it didn't last long. We put it in yogurt and ate it "as is" for a sweet/salty snack. I will have to keep variations of this on hand at all times.

Perfect. Followed the directions exactly and as usually I was not disappointed. Alton's recipes are the most reliable recipes I have ever used and very open to experimentation. After several batches I decided to switch out a small amount of the oil for butter and the maple syrup for honey and it was equally as good. I also add cinnamon, ground clove, or nutmeg as it strikes my fancy.

This granola has quickly become a staple in my house. I actually have to limit how much I make it otherwise I would be making it all the time! I love substituting as desired. Very flexible. I loooove my granola as cereal with a little milk. Yummmm!

Just made this last night and it was EXCEPTIONAL! This is a great basic recipe and, like others have mentioned, you can modify if needed. I didn't have cashews so I subbed pecans. I also added 1/2 C. of sunflower seeds (unsalted, 1/2 C. ground flax seed, and about 7 chopped big dates. The only baking modifications were that I turned every 20 minutes, baked only for an hour, and used foil on my dark baking sheets. Turned out perfect and is FANTASTIC mixed in fat free peach yogurt. I think the watchful eye and low temp kept everything from burning.

Excellent recipe, I did change a few things to our taste. Used shaved cocnut, pecans, cranberries, cherries this is about the sixth time I've made this and each time it is quickly consumed.

Very good! I used unsweetened coconut and it turned out great! I will make this again and again.
