Best granola recipe I have tried. I have substitued other nuts (sunflower seeds, sliced instead of slivered almonds and even left out the dried fruit. Always double the recipe. This goes fast.

Wow! So I made this recipe as Christmas gifts for a group of 12 friends. I bought the ingredients in bulk and gifted the finished product in adorable 1/2 quart mason jars. I've never made granola and this recipe was so easy and absolutely delicious. I did add 1 tablespoon of kentury bourbon vanilla and then would switch up the nuts and coconut based on the tastes of my friends. A week later I would get text pictures of their empty mason jars. 3 weeks later people are still talking about "my granola". I will be doing this annually from here on out.

I use to make this recipe before going Gluten Free. I now make it with Gluten Free Oats and no one can tell the difference. I like to mix it up and put all different dried fruits in it. I never buy store bought granola any longer.

This is my second batch of granola; I thought that I would try a combination of reviewers suggestions and for this batch, I added cinnamon, vanilla and used half maple syrup and half honey, used the "health" nuts a combo of whole almonds, cashews, macadamia nuts and added pecans, used cranberry since my daughters don't like raisins and only left it in the oven for 45 minutes. Yum! Yum! Yum! Had to try some hot out of the oven! Will never buy store granola again!! Thanks Alton!!!

I've made three batches of Alton's granola. It's really easy to make, tastes great, and stays crunchy in milk for quite a while too. Best use I've found for it so far, though, is for topping ice cream! A crunchy compliment to the soft cold stuff. The only thing I'd warn you about when cooking the granola is be careful not to over cook or burn it.

I never made granola before. But I needed something that would keep so I could send it to my niece who is studying in South Africa. I made two batches, using whole raw almonds, walnuts, cashews, pepitas, (I only cut the walnuts in half; the rest I used as is, and sweet shredded coconut, dried cranberries - as it is Autumn - I added cinnamon and a little vanilla as others have suggested. It was - well, let me quote my grandson who I sent some to also: "Holy mother of all Granolas! Where can I get 100 pounds of this?". It made it to South Africa (11 days to get there just fine. She said it was the best granola she has ever had. I'm happy. And I am going to make this for Christmas goodies to give out in plastic bags with a festive ribbon. Amazing!!!

I have been using this recipe for a few years, and it always turns out wonderful. The best thing is that you can adapt this to your liking. I always add cinnamon and nutmeg and also add a bit of water to this so it is moist. This helps to get the granola to clump up. I also add craisins and dried blueberries. Wonderful every time!
