Simple to construct, yet brings back the essence, and the flavour, of the granola Mom used to make.
Recalls the joke we Californians had to endure: How is California like a bowl of granola ? 'Cuz what isn't fruits and nuts is flakes...

I didn't have cashews, so I used walnut and Pecans. (a little over a cup of nuts I added Crasins (Dried sweet cranberry dates and apricots as well. the cook time is really according to your oven. I wouldn't advice 1 hour and 15 minutes for everybody.
    Alton is King!

I have made this granola again after 2 days, simply because it so good. The ingedients are few and simple and the clean up time fast. The toasting/baking at 250 degrees makes sure that this granola is nice and crunchy. Also, the maple syrup adds a nice touch of sweetness and complements the toasted oats.
The first time I used the ingredients named. Today i substituted walnuts for the almonds. I even added some sunflower seeds.
Again this is some might granola.

We make this granola all the time. I use all kinds of nuts and all kinds of dried fruits - whatever sounds good the day I make it. It's good eaten out of hand, with milk, with yogurt, on ice cream... thanks Alton!

This is a wonderful recipe. Just a little different from other granolas so it's not boring. The toasted flavors of the oats, nuts and coconut blend wonderfully together. It's easy to make - a great find!!!
