They were something I wanted to try for the grandchildren for valentine's day. Easy to make, but not worth the trouble of having it stick on everything. Next time, store bought ones.

Excellent!!! Easy!!! I added four drops of coconut essence along with the vanilla. When dusted with the 1/4C confectioner's sugar and 1/4C cornstarch reminded me of the most delicious of all marshmallows: Campfire Marshmallows.
Perfect for icing too. We made chocolate cupcakes and iced them with the marshmallow mixture straight from the bowl and then rolled them in coconut. Hmmmm heaven.

I really didn't think I could tackle homemade marshmallows, but thanks to the other reviewers- I felt more confident. This was super simple and so fun to make!! I really made me happy to make it, maybe it brought me back to my childhood when marshmallows were my favorite!! I plan on using these in a s'mores brownie recipe. Thanks Alton!

I've used this recipe many times, always with great results. Last time I decided to shake things up a little and make them cinnamon flavored with a chocolate swirl...you can check them out on my blog (just google "bloatal recall". They came out great! Thank you Alton, you're the best...I love all your shows!!

I got the sugar a little too close to the hardball stage. oops. instead of water i used the leftover water from the candied ginger recipe from another episode. it turned out AWESOME. i really recommend trying it.

These turned out great! I know some of the reviews talked about it being really messy, but I didn't have any trouble. It is VERY sticky, and you won't be able to scrape the bowl completely clean, but just soak it in water and it comes off very easy. I spread out a piece of newspaper over the counter where I coated my pan in powder to catch the excess that falls out and make cleanup easier.
The biggest trick to these seemed to be greasing the spatula, coating the pan VERY well with powder, and using a oiled and powdered pizza cutter to cut them (this was much easier than a regular knife. If you get the pan well covered with powder, the giant marshmallow flopped right out and excess powder just fell off the marshmallow.
Also, I used crushed up graham crackers instead of powdered sugar/cornstarch and they were AWESOME! Dipped it in some chocolate and it was like a s'more! I love that there are so many ways to experiment with this simple recipe.

Works beautifully. Fluffy and spongy where store-bought now seems dry and crusty. You can make them with a hand mixer. Be sure to have at least a 4 qt bowl since the mix will fluff up. Also change diapers, grab kids a snack, etc.before the syrup gets to the right temperature..because you will be a prisoner of the mixer for a full 12 to 15 minutes. I also replaced the corn syrup with 1 c of sugar syrup. (2 c sugar, 3/4 c water, 1/4 tsp cream of tartar simmered like the marshmallow directions. 3 min covered and then uncovered until softball stage
