O.k. every year my family has a HUGE party. I'm talking at least 20 people around the table. I saw the show and had to try this turkey! I had trouble finding the candied ginger but I figure that I wasn't the only person in the area with the recipe. I thought I forgot something, the brine recipe was so easy! I cooked the bird (WICKED EASY!! and had it covered & ready to go! My aunt thought there might not be enough food for everyone(eventhough we had 20 sides, a 18lbs. bird & a 14lbs. ham!. She made the traditional overspiced, overcooked dominican style turkey. She unveiled hers first, a few desperately hungry looks. Then I unveiled MY turkey... the air was filled with oooos & awwws, & then the comments:
"Wow, that looks like the turkey on the commercial!" & "I never seen a turkey look like that before!" & my personal favorite: "What happened to the other bird???"
It's only March 25th and I'm already taking reservations for this Thanksgiving. I think I'm going to have to make TWO turkeys this year!!!
Thank you for making me the Thanksgiving Goddess!

This was superb! You may also subsitute real Maple Syrup for the honey. Both are Fabulous!

Works equally well with chicken or turkey. All meat stays tender and moist with whatever flavors you impart.

it was very moist, but I thought it would have more of a honey flavor.

I used Alton's brine for my turkey last Christmas and it was absolutely the moistest turkey I've ever baked. Thank you Alton for suggesting a cooler to brine the turkey in. I would have never thought of it...and my problem in the past was finding a container large enough to brine a turkey in not to mention refrigerator space!

Tried this recipe for Thanksgiving and it was outstanding. This was my first time being in charge of the bird on Thanksgiving and this recipe made me look like a pro. The bird came off the grill with a great color and very juicy meat.

Who knew that such a simple thing could make such a difference?!? I HIGHLY recommend brining to anyone who hasn't tried it yet - it's very, very easy, and you'll never have a more moist, flavorful bird!

OK, I did not smoke the turkey on a grill, but I did use the brine. MAN! It was the best turkey ever this thanksgiving! It was juicy, flavorful and everybody raved about it. Thanks Alton!
