AB comes up with the most interesting ideas. I tweeked this a bit. The dry milk was in granules instead of a powder. I put the 5 cups (double recipe through the food processor to give the resulting mix a more powder consistency throughout. Ends up looking just like the SM brand but way better for me. Does that mean I can drink this stuff all day? PS. A tablespoon of the mix is GREAT on top of ice cream

3 years ago I was looking for a recipe to make my own hot chocolate and tried this one and loved it. Can't drink store bought now even if "premium". I don't add the cayenne pepper because of having small children, but will sometimes add my own Irish Cream syrup, Redi Whip, or even coffee creamer. Love it! And, at least you know what ingredients are in it.

This stuff is great. I'm not sure what changed from the last time I made this and rated it a year ago, but my opinion of it has gone up immensely. I would highly recommend putting all the ingredients in a food processor or blender to minimize clumps. Also fantastic with a blob of marshmallow fluff.

Nothing special. I followed this recipe exactly. It tastes like a powdered hot cocoa mix that comes in a paper pouch, pre-made. Tastes a bit artificial, bland, and watery. Maybe it would taste better with milk, not sure. But that would miss the whole point of using the powdered milk.

I made the cocoa mix exactly like daniellenew made it. I always use Hershey's special dark cocoa for all of my chocolate needs and always make hot cocoa with whole milk. This was absolutely delicious. I saw Danielle's review too late but next time I will put a little cinnamon into it. Try a little Bailey's Irish cream with this too - awesome!!

This is 5 stars with a few alterations so I marked it 4. I left out the powdered milk, used Hershey special dark cocoa powder, added a pinch of high quality cinnamon per serving (added it straight to the cup but will add to mix next time and then made it with whole milk. I used 6T of mix per approx 12oz of milk. 4 is ok, 6 is very good and I think anything over that would be overbearing

I found this recipe a few weeks ago after searching for a cocoa recipe with high marks. Today we had our first snow of the season, so I mixed up a batch for the family after some brisk outdoor play. I did not have cornstarch, but other than that missing ingredient, I followed recipe exactly. We found the recipe very tasty and not overly sweet, which I like. The cups I made were a little rich, which can easily be adjusted with a little more water. We could not taste the cayenne pepper while drinking, however there was a slight "warmth" that I could feel/taste after drinking...it was really delicious...perfect for out tastes! Everyone gave this recipe two thumbs up!
Curious to know if it would be okay to continue to make this without the cornstarch or if it serves a particular purpose?

I'm so addicted to this. I've been using this cocoa recipe for over a month. I'm drinking some now as I make this review. I'm going to make this cocoa mix and gift my upstairs neighbors a large jar full of it for Christmas. Thank you, Alton. And Alton's video is very informative. I find the history behind the use of cayenne in hot cocoa intriguing. And ultimately, the fact that this is healthy is a big pus.
