Key to this recipe is buying WHOLE MILK dry powder NOT Skim.
Reduce milk powder by a third and add powdered creamer.
The whole milk powder and creamer will make the cocoa taste like real
    creamy milk and cocoa.

Dutch processed cocoa is very important taste. Buy quality you wont be
    disappointed.

Last add a 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips to mix!

I have tried several recipes but this is the best.

I had never made homemade hot cocoa mix before, so this was new to me. I am drinking a cup of this delicious hot cocoa right now. Very impressed. I did add a tiny bit more confectioners sugar to the recipe though. My boyfriend probably would think the original recipe is too rich, so I had to improvise. Also, I live a distance from town and only had Nestle Cocoa. I used that, and it still tastes yummy.

I was a bit nervous about this recipe since it sounded so rich, but the temperature dropped below 20 tonight and I just had a hankering for something hot and soothing. Definitely hit the spot. I will never need to look for another hot cocoa recipe again. Alton's the best!

I usually make hot cocoa the old fashioned way, in a pan with cocoa powder, sugar, milk...

I tried this recipe specifically in order to gift the mix to a friend who has recently become allergic to chocolate and is really missing hot cocoa most of all. I substituted carob powder for the cocoa powder and the results are incredibly delicious! I have also added other flavors - coffee, cinnamon and cayenne, cinnamon and clove - for a variety of different hot cocoa flavors.

    Delicious!

I saw the largely positive, but some very negative reviews and was not sure what to think....but I bit the bullet and made it. I can only think that the people who hate it are people who have really only had/like Swiss Miss or other mixes. This is what "real" cocoa tastes like. I don't mean that in a food snob way, but sometimes when you grow up with a certain thing.....that's what you like. Other than that, I can't guess what went wrong.

I tried it both in milk and water. While the water was definitely not as rich, it was still very tasty. I will add that I used skim powdered milk in the recipe and thought it was fine. I also used skim milk when I actually used some this afternoon to make a cup of cocoa.

i'm giving this stuff away to friends with Martha Stewart's candy cane marshmallows.....I think they taste great together!

This is a great recipe, but you really can't do a cup half filled with the mixture. We fill our cups about 1/4 - 1/3 of the way full. 1/2 full of the mixture makes the cocoa waaay too rich.

I made this shortly after seeing the episode for the first time, and have been making it for Christmas gifts every year since! It's the best cocoa I have ever had. The pinch of cayenne just sets it off so well. YUM!!
