Watched the video. There he suggests 1/3 mix to 2/3 water. That was plenty strong. Very tasty mix, and the cayenne is a GREAT touch!

Left out the cayenne. Also the 1:1 ratio of mix to water is a bit strong. Otherwise not a bad recipe. It does make a good base to add other things to it.

If you make this recipe as written it is not good! In fact, I tried to improve it but gave up and made my own mix for gifts. Would have expected something wonderful from Alton Brown.

A nice base to use for hot cocoa gifts. Use the best cocoa you can find. Then I mix it up by adding different things, like crushed candy canes for peppermint cocoa, chocolate chips or white chocolate chips, or blue and white m&ms for Chanukah gifts. Have fun with it

I was so disappointed in this recipe. The cayenne ruined it for me completely.

So much better than the store-bought stuff! I left out the cayenne because of picky eaters, but have had cayenne in hot chocolate plenty of times and it is tasty! Plus, I added some homemade peppermint marshmallows (also Alton's recipe but with half the vanilla and 1 tsp of peppermint extract. Wonderful!

This is the best chocolate mix I've ever tried - everything is perfect;y blended. When I give it as a gift, I include the receipe. Everyone has been surprised by how much they enjoy the taste and thanked me for including the receipe.

Exactly what I wanted. Something healthier to serve my kids all winter when they come inside from playing and yell, "I need hot cocoa!". The store bought mixes are either tasteless or made from ingredients that are better left to the 'once in a while' category of beverages. Thank-you, once again Food Network.

This a good quick and easy recipe and keep very well. I will say for all of those that don't plan on using the whole batch right away I would dose in out one hefty tablespoon scoop to every 6oz but play around to fit your needs best.
