I will admit, I was a little nervous since this got a couple really bad reviews...but I don't understand why. I was even forced to use non fat dry milk because I live in a city that has very little in the way of decent grocery stores. Still, it was fabulous--chocolatey, not too sweet goodness. Alton's never done me wrong. Love him!

This has got to be the best hot cocoa I have ever had. I emitted the cayenne pepper as that is one thing currently not in the pantry, it is WONDERFUL.

I have been looking for the best hot chocolate recipe for YEARS and I have finally found it! I LOVE IT! It is sooooo delicious and creamy. It tastes like what I think the hot chocolate would have tasted like on the Polar Express as described in the book. One thing i would say though is that i did not have any powdered milk when making this and it still turned out great, so don't be discouraged if you are in my predicament and feel that you have to keep scouring the internet for another recipe. STOP HERE BECAUSE YOU HAVE FOUND PERFECTION SO MAKE IT!

Best hot cocoa I've ever had. Always try to go for a dark powdered chocolate for a deeper flavor and use warm milk for a double dairy explosion! And a good pinch of cayenne to every cup I make.

This was okay. Has a little strange flavor, maybe the powder milk. My kids seem to really like it though, so that's good enough for me. Next time I will try to use a better quality cocoa and see if that helps.

It was alright, not the best I've tasted. It had an odd after taste.

Incredible recipe, taste as my mom use to do it. Definitely a keeper in my recipe vault. I was a little skeptical with the dry milk and the cayenne but not anymore. I recommend this recipe 100%

All things being equal, everyone will tweek something when it comes to another's recipe. We tried it as written, and we really, REALLY liked it! However, as one person pointed out, you can smell the dried milk (we also used the NIDO, which created a little problem for one of mine who is "smell sensitive" re: chemo. So I added a 1/4 up of (dare I say it! coffee creamer (Hazelnut to be exact . . . it's not enough to really add flavor . . . it actually blends in quite nicely! BUT . . . it helps camoflauge(sp the smell of the dried milk. Problem solved! And we taste-tested it several ways re: "mocha", marshmallows, and Christmas versions . . . added a little more chocolate . . . added a little less chocolate . . . we simply love this recipe!
