I've been making this since last winter. I throw half a bag of chocolate chips in the mix if I have them around. And spiked with caramel vodka or peppermint schnapps makes it a very good adult beverage. Other liqueur choices, kahlua, coconut rum, chocolate liqueur, butterscotch schnapps etc. Oh, and I do the cinnamon in place of the cayenne. Also Frontier makes a good non fat dry milk and it's organic.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this recipe! I can't stand other store-bought hot cocoa recipes anymore.

This mix has great flavor. The cornstarch, as others have said, helps to thicken it just enough. I used a combination of cocoa from Penzey's and Special Dark Cocoa. Very rich and very tasty. I didn't think that I put much cayenne powder in it, but I will be sure that I only use a small pinch next time as I can taste the pepper on my tongue just a bit. I think that I will fix another mug of it.

I did not like this recipe. Although the cornstarch was a good idea and gave you the affect of drinking something warm and thick, you could really smell the stench of the NFDM, a smell I cannot stand.....

I love love love this. The one alteration that I do is to add 1 teaspoon of Vietnamese Saigon Cinnamon and sometimes a shot of peppermint schnapps.

Great recipe. The cornstarch was a great idea. Most homemade recipes I've tried just seemed a bit thin. I also made three mixes for gift baskets by subbing cinnamon in one and coffee granules in the other in place of the cayenne.
