Easy as pie to make. Nice to have on hand in the cupboard for when you just want a big ole bowl of comfort! I agree that it does need more sugar, so I would add another 1/2 - 3/4 of powdered sugar, or add 1/4 cup granulated sugar during cooking. I will definitely be making this again.

This was seriously the worst recipe I have EVER used. I had to add in an extra 1/4 cup of granulated sugar just to make it edible. Do not use this...look elsewhere for a better recipe. I usually love Alton's recipes, but this one is WAY below the mark!

A reviewer mentioned the lack of measurements for using the mix.
The video talks about how to use it.

    1 3/4 cups mix
to 2 cups milk and 2 cups heavy cream
    Whisk and simmer 4 minutes.

    Yum!

The recipe AB provides is a great mix; however it is NOT an Instant Pudding mix such as we are accustomed to purchasing in the store. He explains this in the episode Video (go to link, but the pudding is actually a cooked pudding. Certainly a richer, more delicious pudding with no preservatives like an Instant Pudding mix from the store would have, but that doesn't change the fact that THIS recipe is NOT an instant pudding mix.

    Ingredients
1 3/4 cups Instant Chocolate Pudding Mix, recipe follows
    2 cups milk
    2 cups heavy cream
    1 teaspoon vanilla extract

    Directions

Place 1 3/4 cups of dry pudding mix into a medium saucepan. Add milk and heavy cream and whisk to combine. Over medium heat, bring mixture to a boil, continuously whisking gently. Reduce heat to low and cook for 4 minutes while continuing to whisk. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Pour the mixture through a sieve and into individual dishes or a 1 1/2-quart serving dish. Cover the surface of the pudding with plastic wrap. Place in the refrigerator to chill completely before serving, approximately 4 hours.

    Instant Chocolate Pudding Mix:

    3 ounces Dutch-processed cocoa, approximately 1 cup

2 ounces cornstarch, approximately 1/2 cup

6 ounces confectioners' sugar, approximately 1 1/2 cups

1 1/2 ounces instant non-fat dry milk, approximately 1/2 cup

    1 teaspoon salt

In a large bowl or plastic container with a lid, combine the cocoa, cornstarch, sugar, instant non-fat dry milk, and salt. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 month.

Yield: 3 1/2 cups dry mix

This is a great, easy recipe that you can have fun making with your kids. The only problem is that the cooking directions are not included. If I hadn't just seen the episode, I would not have know how to go from mix to pudding!

I'm sure the recipe will make a delicious pudding, however, there were NO "How to prepare the Pudding" instructions.

Is it one cup of mix to one cup of milk??????????

    Dear AB,
Glad for the recipe, but how about including the amount of liquid it takes to make pudding out of the dry ingreedents.
I'm going to modify the recipe so that I can make it with splenda.
    Enjoy your shows,
    Richard
