i love Alton Brown but i have to say i was not a big fan of this recipe. i'm diabetic so i usually eat my pancakes with no syrup, but i HAD to put some on these. Maybe because my griddle is new and haen't been seasoned yet but the didn't get golden brown, and they had no taste.Sorry

My co-worker said these were the best pancakes ever and sent me the link to the recipe. We have pancake breakfast every Sunday and so with great anticipation we tried this new recipe. I found it to be labor intensive, not fluffy, flat in fact, and hard to get a good golden brown. Although the grand kids and my SO seemed to like them well enough they do not rate the moniker of "best pancakes ever" IMHO

Great recipe! I've been using it for about 4 months now. Easy enough that I can make pancakes on weekday mornings. Half buckwheat flour is a tasty variation.

This morning I made a half recipe (1 cup Pancake mix and added
1/2 cup chopped cranberries with 2 teaspoons sugar
    1/4 cup chopped pecans
    1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
    1/4 teaspoon allspice

Super easy pancakes, nothing could be simpler. It's my sons favorite. I'm not a big pancake person but these are really good. The post that says the butter "reforms" in the batter I have no ides what the person could be doing wrong. Maybe butter milk is too cold. It certainly has nothing to do with the recipe. I generally 1/2 the batter recipe sice I only cook for 3.

Note: I have made these both with full fat & fat free buttermilk. At least in the brands we buy the full fat is a bit thicker than the fat free. When I use the full fat I use about 1.25 times the buttermilk called for.

I am a huge fan of Alton's, so it pains me to say that I am not lovin' this recipe. I have been trying for months to get this recipe to work. These were too buttery for our taste and the pancakes always came out flat and misshapen (due to the butter reforming in the batter and then melting during cooking. I almost always adjust things in a recipe, but I am done with tweaking this and have moved on to a different recipe.

I've been using this recipe for several years now. This is the best one ever. My Dad loves my pancakes. One hint...I add a teaspoon of lemon extract. I make the batter and refrigerate over night. My 82 year old Dad says they are like the ones my Granny fixed when he was a child. You can't get a better compliment than that.
