Growing up on a "meat and potatoes" ranch and farm, my experience with lentils is limited. I followed this recipe exactly, and it was
delicious! I will definitely make it again.

yummy!! I love it. This soup is my go to easy recipe to a good dinner. Just the thing I want when on a cold wisconsin winter night. I don't change a thing but i do not use the grains of paradise. Will make again and again. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Easy and delicious. I bought the grains of paradise seeds on amazon, and ground them with my spice grinder. I added a bit more liquid since my lentils weren't tender and the soup was thick. Other than that, I didn't change a thing.

Delicious and really easy! I was afraid it would taste like it was missing something since it didn't have any added meat or bones to deepen the flavor, but it was perfect. This is my new favorite lentil soup!

Love this recipe! Easy and so yummy. As others did I also added some hot chicken sausage and ground fennel. Both added a nice flavor. I will certainly make this again.
I didn't have the grains of paradise but will look for it the next time I am in a specialty spice shop.

A nice, easy to make soup which is tasty and super healthy.
I substituted black cardamom seeds for the grains of paradise. GOP is a very obscure spice - I won't add it to my kitchen just for this recipe.
The soup tasted nice, but I added some amchur powder to give it some "pop". Amchur or some other acid really amplifies all the other flavors quite nicely.
There is no heat in this soup whatsoever, so add a bit of black or cayenne pepper if you like hot foods.
Finally, I held about 1/4 of the lentils back so there would be some whole lentils in the final soup.

I made this recipe about a month ago--after trying with no luck to find the elusive 'grains of paradise'. It was SO good! Then about 2 weeks ago I checked out an obscure little herb and spice shop that I ran across--and they had the 'grains'! I'll be making the soup again soon, to see what it's like when you follow the recipe (something I don't always do..
