I have made this a dozen times and just now I thought to ladell it over brown rice and dump hot sauce all over it...O-M-G. WOW. You have to try it if you are an Indian food fan/hot sauce lover.

I think I reviewed this already, but if not I modified the recipe a little bit. I double the celery, double the carrots. Add some garlic (however much you like, but it does need some, used pre-cooked lentils, and 1 qt stock (because I use precooked lentils, canned tomatoes, fresh cilantro, and I've never added the grains of paradise (I don't even know what that is haha. Leave it to Alton Brown to use all FRESH SEEDS, but I use preground seasonings and it's juuuust fine.

I thought this recipe was excellent with some adjustments as I did not have, nor could I find, grains of paradise as many others have attested. I did use about 1/2 tspn of garam masala spices made by Frontier Natural Products Co-op. I still add the recommended spices, but also added a dash of ginger, a bit of freshly grated nutmeg and since I didn't have any citrus peels left in my pantry, I used about 1/2 tspn of ponzu to add citrus flavor. I did need to add a bit extra salt and pepper for my personal taste, but other than that, this is an excellent, easy recipe that I will make many times more with my adjustments. I also prefered the blended texture.

Very tasty and super easy. I didn't use any kind of stock (just 2 tsp of salt and I replaced grains of paradise with regular fresh ground pepper. I added a little extra cumin for taste. I served it as it is without using the blender because I like the whole lentil texture. It turned out a great recipe! I highly recommend it.

Excellent. A few slices per bowl of grilled spicy hot Italian sausage are a great addition.

I've made this recipe for 2 years now. It's excellent & everyone loves it. I do prefer the vegie broth over the chicken broth...adds excellent flavor.

Wasn't too bad. It could have used more spice and taste.

Thanks for a fabulous recipe. This was my first attempt at lentils - ever. I didn't know if I would like them or not. I loved this recipe, and my husband and I ate the whole pot in a few days. Stocked up on all the essentials to make another batch this week. This soup is very, very filling and taste great on a cold night.

This soup was excellent! Better than mom's and she was off the boat italian. I did make my own changes based on preference, I did not use the last 3 spices, I used 3 cut carrots, 2 celery stalks and 2 cups of chopped tomatoes and no added salt. I makes alot but I brought it to work and friends wanted the recipe especially when I told them how long it took to cook. I also did not puree it. I make this regularly. I made my picky 13 yr old eat it and he went for seconds.

Very tasty great texture and consistency was perfect. This should be eaton with crusty bread and a glass of Italian wine. A dab of sour cream is just right.
