Excellent soup. I did not have enough lentils for the recipe, so I supplemented with some orzo. Very tasty.

Excellent recipe - so simple too. Didn't use grains of paradise either... and I added garlic when I was cooking up the onions. I put have the soup in the blender, the rest I left in tact. Great soup, served with beer bread.

so yummy and so healthy. It was so quick to put together (minus the cook time. I left out the grains of paradise because I couldn't find it in the store, but I added a tsp of vinegar while serving and it was so yummy (my grandmother used to do this for her lentil soup and it has stayed with me. Also, I don't have a stick blender but I used a potato masher right in the pot and it worked just fine and thickened the soup. Will definitely make again.

This is the second time I've made this soup and I really love it. This time I only made half the portion and it was just enough for two of us, and leftovers for tomorrow. I also did not use grains of paradise, but I added black pepper and fresh garlic. So simple, fresh, and easy!

I love this recipe. I couldn't find grains of paradise so I used white pepper instead. I also used canned tomatoes instead of fresh.

Very good healthy soup! LOVED it! Super easy! Go easy on the salt, i added garlic and a can of cruched tomatoes with thick sauce. The only thing I wasn't too crazy about was the coriander seeds, they dont dissolve therefore when I bit into them they weren't pleasant, either than that awesome soup!

Delicious. No need for the spices suggested by AB. I have enjoyed making this using my everyday spices of smoked paprika, Chipotle pepper flakes, and powdered cumin. To booest the flavor, start with bacon. Everything always tastes better with bacon. It's a fact! Want more flavor? Add 3 cloves of smashed and finely diced garlic. Want even more flavor? Add 1 can of Rotel Diced Tomatoes and Green Chilies. Want even more? Serve it at stew like consistency topped with lemon zest. Slam bam! Good luck!

Hold back on the salt and it will turn out great. I started with 1/2 teaspoon and maybe added a quarter more. I used canned diced tomatoes. A really tasty solid lentil soup. Simple flavor that highlights the lentils. Combined black pepper and cardamon in place of grains of paradise. After tasting in its original form I added some smoked chipotle powder to give it a little background smokiness and heat. Serving with fresh chopped herbs and yogurt really rounds out the dish.

Great, easy recipe. Following the advice of others, I used a can of diced tomatoes instead of fresh, and added some smoked paprika and 2 pinches of cayenne pepper. Delicious! I read that lentils are good to eat the night before a distance run so I will be having it tonight!

This soup is amazing. I added about a teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce and around a tablespoon of sriracha (you could really use any hot sauce. It needed a little bite to it. I also substituted ground ginger for grains of paradise since, apparently, Alton Brown is the only person who even knows that spice exists. I would like to be able to find it, though, and see how it works in the soup. I blend mine until at least half of the lentils have been liquified. I'd say you only want enough solids to keep the soup from being completely homogeneous.
