I've made this sorbet using watermelon twice now. The first time I didn't have any vodka, so used a bit of peppermint schnapps instead, which made for a very refreshing dessert. But I just had to know what it would taste like with the vodka, so I made it again, and I liked it better the second time. With extra vodka and ice, it also makes a really yummy blended cocktail. A real "multi-tasker" recipe, thanks Alton!

I used about 1/3 of a 12ish-pound seedless watermelon and it was just the right amount (after the rind was removed, it was probably somewhere close to the amount he called for... After pureeing in the food processor, I put it through a sieve because there seemed to be a lot of little white seeds. I mixed in the other ingredients (only half the sugar though, based on other comments and ended up adding a little more of everything based on taste... It's definitely the best way to go since melons can vary a lot in sweetness especially, so taste the mixture before you freeze it! Also, I found that it got better after a few days in the freezer (sweeter and more intensely flavored. Give it a try, it's a good one!

I made this recipe for the first time today, and i used about half the sugar according to everyone's reviews. I also replaced the vodka with limoncello and used one less tablespoon of fresh lemon juice...SO delicious!

AB as usual has provided a great recipe for a sorbet! I would agree with many points about varying the sugar, but even he says that in his episode. This recipe has so many possibilities so make it your own! I am looking forward to experimenting with watermelon this year, and I am even going to try a little lime and tequila instead of vodka. Can you say margarita anyone? Anyways, make this today! If you don't have an ice cream maker like I once did, go out and buy yours today!!! It's a single purpose machine, but in this case, it's ok!

We bought an ice-cream maker especially for this receipe. It came out good, but a little too sweet. Next time I think I would use 1/2 the sugar. SUper easy to make and kids love it.

Tip: this makes an amazing base for a smoothie. I put a scoop in a blender with some ice, apple juice and whatever fruit I had available. I used pineapple, blueberries and banana. This is the best smoothie I have ever had. Much better than the ones you get at the juice stores.

This is just the best thing I've ever made with my ice cream maker. It is so simple but it is so delicious. It is my favorite thing to eat during the summer.

I used honeydew melon and it was sweet - just right. I think I could have gotten by with half the sugar.

I suggest you adjust based on the sweetness of the fruit you're using. You can always add more during the mixing.

O, I tossed in some finely grated fresh ginger...

Next time I want to try putting some passion fruit rum I have in my kitchen. :

After making this I thought I must have followed the first recipe Alton made without the vodka. Nope, I did it right. I may make again but I'll change it alot.

I've made this recipe several times and it's always the hit of the party! It is amazingly refreshing and easy, too. BTW, I multiply the recipy by 1.5 for my 6 cup ice cram freezer. One other tip - if you're looking at other fruit gelato recipes that call for 'stabilzing powder', the vodka is a suitable substitute. Thanks, Alton!

Has anyone tried making this with pineapple? My absolute favorite and you can never find it in the stores in VA.
