This was my first go at mulled wine and I enjoyed it. I read the reviews and cut do thrwn the honey to 1/2 cup, as I don't like really sweet wine. I almost could cut it down more or leave it out altogether. I felt like all those spices gave it a sweet tone all it's own. Peppercorns gave it a good heat in the back of the throat. I did also just put it on low on the crock pot. No way was I putting honey through my percolator.....

I made this mulled wine last year for a few Christmas parties and it was an absolute hit! Super delicious and could not have been easier to make.
Now that it is fall once again, I look forward to making it for a big party this weekend! Really wonderful recipe.

I make mulled wine every year with the usual, boring nutmeg, cloves, etc....I decided to try this unique recipe. I was VERY skeptical about the anise and peppercorn, and the lack of cloves. But WOW, this recipe is the BEST mulled wine I have ever made!! It tastes amazing!! I used 2/3 cup of honey instead of 3/4, though, because I don't like very sweet mulled wine. It was HUGE hit at our Christmas Eve party.

Made this for a company (off-premises Holiday party, using a favorite Texas-born Cab. The mulled wine was such a hit, that I had to go out and get MORE ingredients for a refill! The egg nog and spiked cider was left in the dust. I'm going to start making this (in reduced quantities, of course as my "cold winter evening, watching the stars" beverage of choice. Way to go, Alton!

I used two bottles of Napa Valley Cabernet, and put everything into a crockpot, since I did not want off-flavors from the coffee percolator. (Make sure not to let the wine boil Very interesting flavors! Who would have thought of black pepper corns and ginger? Bold and balanced with the Cab. Excellent!!
Would definitely do this again. Thank you, Alton.

I was skeptical, but this was excellent. I couldn't find star anise, so I had to use regular anise seed. I don't like anise, so I made two pots - one with and one without. I actually liked the one with the anise it. I will definitely make this again around the holidays. It's a great drink for sitting around a fire on a cold winter's day and it makes your house smell wonderful!
